In this paper, CuO nanoparticles  have been synthesized via solid- state thermal decomposition using copper(II) Schiff base complexes as new precursors at 600ºC under air atmosphere for 3 h. Surface morphology of the products were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

The thermal and kinetic aspects of solid state decomposition reactions can be complex and posses a large number of parameters to investigate. The determination of the activation energies for the several intermediates in the thermal decomposition is particularly sensitive to the overlap in thermal decomposition traces. To overcome this problem we have undertaken the detailed kinetic analysis of ...

We used a continuous labeling method of naturally C-depleted CO2 in a growth chamber to test for rhizosphere effects on soil organic matter (SOM) decomposition. Two C3 plant species, soybean (Glycine max) and sunflower (Helianthus annus), were grown in two previously differently managed soils, an organically farmed soil and a soil from an annual grassland. We maintained a constant atmospheric C...

Since the decomposition rate of soil organic carbon (SOC) varies as a function of environmental conditions, global climate change is expected to alter SOC decomposition dynamics, and the resulting changes in the amount of CO2 emitted from soils will feedback onto the rate at which climate change occurs. While this soil feedback is expected to be significant because the amount of SOC is substant...

Root carbon (C) inputs may regulate decomposition rates in soil, and in this study we ask: how do labile C inputs regulate decomposition of plant residues, and soil microbial communities? In a 14 d laboratory incubation, we added C compounds often found in root exudates in seven different concentrations (0, 0.7, 1.4, 3.6, 7.2, 14.4 and 21.7 mg C g(-1) soil) to soils amended with and without (13...

The forest ecosystem is the main component of terrestrial ecosystems. The global climate and the functions and processes of soil microbes in the ecosystem are all influenced by litter decomposition. The effects of litter decomposition on the abundance of soil microorganisms remain unknown. Here, we analyzed soil bacterial communities during the litter decomposition process in an incubation expe...

The role of photodegradation, an abiotic process, has been largely overlooked during straw decomposition in mesic ecosystems. We investigated the mass loss and chemical structures of straw decomposition in response to elevated UV-B radiation with or without soil contact over a 12-month litterbag experiment. Wheat and maize straw samples with and without soil contact were exposed to three radiat...

Decomposers provide an essential ecosystem service that contributes to sustainable production in rice ecosystems by driving the release of nutrients from organic crop residues. During a single rice crop cycle we examined the effects of four different crop residue management practices (rice straw or ash of burned straw scattered on the soil surface or incorporated into the soil) on rice straw de...

Northern Hemisphere permafrost affected land areas contain about twice as much carbon as the global atmosphere. This vast carbon pool is vulnerable to accelerated losses through mobilization and decomposition under projected global warming. Satellite data records spanning the past 3 decades indicate widespread reductions (∼ 0.8– 1.3 days decade) in the mean annual snow cover extent and frozen-s...

one distinct concentration of copper ions was embedded into the silica matrix to xerogel form using copper source cu(no3)2∙3h2o. the xerogel samples were prepared with using hydrolysis and condensation reactions of tetraethyl ortho-silicate (teos) by the sol-gel method. in this investigation, new molar ratio of h2o/teos was determined to be 11.7. also, the necessary amount of tri-hydrated coppe...
