In this paper, the problem of heat and mass transfer on the flow of non-Newtonian micropolar fluid with uniform suction/blowing, heat generation, radiation, thermophoresis and chemical reaction is presented and discussed. The Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM) is employed to compute an approximation to the solution of the system of nonlinear differential equations governing the problem. The effects...

The hallmark of living matter is the replication of genetic molecules and their active storage against diffusion. We implement both in the simple nonequilibrium environment of a temperature gradient. Convective flow both drives the DNA replicating polymerase chain reaction while concurrent thermophoresis accumulates the replicated 143 base pair DNA in bulk solution. The time constant for accumu...

p38α is considered as the key isoform involved in modulating inflammatory response in rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory pain and is therefore a key target for compound screening in pharmaceutical industry. In this study we demonstrate the use of Microscale Thermophoresis to perform an essentially label-free measurements of small molecule binding to protein targets by using a competitive app...

In this paper, the problem of laminar nanofluid flow which results from the nonlinear stretching of a flat sheet is investigated numerically. In this paper, a modified variable physical properties model for analyzing nanofluids flow and heat transfer is introduced. In this model, the effective viscosity, density, and thermal conductivity of the solid-liquid mixture (nanofluids) which are common...

Emerging applications in nanomaterials processing are increasingly featuring multiple physical phenomena including magnetic body forces, chemical reactions and high temperature behavior. Stimulated by developing a deeper insight of nanoscale fluid dynamics such manufacturing systems, the current article, we study nanofluid along nonlinear porous stretching sheet with Arrhenius kinetics wall tra...

In the present article, we considered two-dimensional steady incompressible Oldroyd-B nanofluid flow past a stretching sheet. Using appropriate similarity variables, the partial differential equations are transformed to ordinary (similarity) equations, which are then solved numerically. The effects of various parameters, namely, Deborah numbers [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], Prand...

Thermophoresis depletes DNA from a heated spot. We quantify for the first time the thermal diffusion constant D(T)=0.4x10(-8) cm(2)/s K for DNA, using fluorescent dyes and laser heating. For 5 kB DNA we extrapolate a 1000-fold depletion from a temperature difference of 50 K. Surprisingly, convection generated by the same heating can turn the depletion into trapping of DNA. Trapped DNA can form ...

This paper presents a unified theory of phoretic phenomena in single-component fluids. Simple formulas are given for the phoretic velocities of small inert force-free non-Brownian particles migrating through otherwise quiescent single-component gases and liquids and animated by a gradient in the fluid's temperature (thermophoresis), pressure (barophoresis), density (pycnophoresis), or any combi...
