A high degree mite infestation found the building where experimental group kept. This condition...
Traps made by rectangular pieces of 3 mm thick corrugated cardboard of four different sizes, 200 by 140 (A), 140 by 100 (B), 100 by 70 (C), and 200 by 40 mm (D), were evaluated as a sampling device for the chicken mite, Dermanyssus gallinae (De Geer). Mites were trapped during 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 d, respectively, in a poultry house heavily infested with the parasite. Significantly greater number...
Trichomonas vaginalis infections are usually asymptomatic or can result in nonspecific clinical symptoms, which makes laboratory-based detection of this protozoan parasite essential for diagnosis and treatment. We report the development of a battery of highly sensitive and specific PCR assays for detection of T. vaginalis in urine, a noninvasive specimen, and development of a protocol for diffe...
The treatment of trichomonal infestations of the genito-urinary tracts of both men and women has been greatly improved since the introduction of metronidazole in 1959. Cure rates in women of over 80 per cent, have been reported by several observers (Rodin, King, Nicol, and Barrow, 1960; Nicol, Barrow, and Redmond, 1960; Watt and Jennison, 1962). Even higher cure rates have been claimed in cases...
Seventy-three men with urogenital trichomonal infection were treated with a single daily dose of 1 g tinidazole or 1.5 g metronidazole. Both treatments gave satisfactory results. Wives who were also infected with Trichomonas vaginalis, were less likely to have a recurrence of the infection after their husbands had been given either drug.
A rapid and specific dot-enzyme immunoassay (DIBA) using monoclonal antibody was introduced for detection of Trichomonas vaginalis antigen in vaginal and urethral materials. The results of DIBA were compared with culture findings of the parasite in 245 female patients. Taking culture as the reference method, DIBA had a sensitivity of 92% and a specificity of 93%. The predictive value of a posit...
