A ligation-mediated PCR (LMPCR) method for the amplification of sequences flanking the IS6110 of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex has been developed. The method uses one primer specific for IS6110 and a second specific for a linker ligated to SalI-restricted genomic DNA. LMPCR is a rapid screening method, valuable for the fingerprinting of M. tuberculosis complex strains.
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection that attacks the lungs. a dangerous can cause death. In overcoming it, safe and effective treatment needed so this be cured. The purpose of study was to determine potential activity active compounds derived from xanthones contained in mangosteen rind as inhibitor protein with comparison compound Isoniazid. used...
Perinatal tuberculosis is insufficiently understood and has been rarely reported even in areas endemic for the disease, and unless a high index of suspicion is maintained the diagnosis can be missed. Differentiation of congenital from early postnatally acquired tuberculosis is only of epidemiological importance. We hereby report one case of congenital tuberculosis and three cases of perinatal t...
InMarch 2011, a medical officer working in a metropolitan New South Wales (NSW) neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) was diagnosed with active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB).Hehad immigrated toAustralia froma high-incidence country 2 years earlier with negative pre-immigration screening. Occupational TB screening prior to commencing employment at the hospital, conducted in line with NSW Health poli...
The QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube assay (QFT) is increasingly being used for latent tuberculosis screening in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in the United States. This is a retrospective analysis of repeating positive QFT assays as a strategy to identify false-positive results in HIV-infected patients at low risk for tuberculosis.
We present a case of a woman found to have features concerning for tuberculosis on a screening colonoscopy. Colonic tuberculosis presents with diverse clinical manifestations and resembles other clinical disorders, making its diagnosis challenging. It is imperative to know the classic risk factors and features that define this disease, as empiric treatment is often needed.
Decaprenylphosphoryl-β-d-ribose oxidase (DprE1) is the flavoprotein subunit of decaprenylphosphoryl-d-ribose epimerase involved in cell wall synthesis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and catalyzes the conversion of decaprenylphosphoryl ribose to decaprenylphosphoryl arabinose. DprE1 is a potential target against tuberculosis, including multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. We identified potential Dpr...
OBJECTIVE To identify inhibitors of the essential chromosome partitioning protein ParA that are active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. METHODS Antisense expression of the parA orthologue MSMEG_6939 was induced on the Mycobacterium smegmatis background. Screening of synthetic chemical libraries was performed to identify compounds with higher anti-mycobacterial activity in the presence of p...
Among eight cephalosporins and cephamycins tested in preliminary in vitro screening against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the most promising for further study was found to be ceforanide, followed by ceftizoxime, cephapirin, and cefotaxime. Moxalactam, cefoxitin, cefamandole, and cephalothin were found to be not active enough against M. tuberculosis to be considered for further in vitro studies. T...
A review of the epidemiology of tuberculosis, its contributing risk factors (excluding HIV) and the role of screening latent tuberculosis infection in Malaysia was done. Despite the global and domestic decrease in prevalence rates of tuberculosis in the past decade, there is an alarming increase in the trend of non communicable diseases in the country. High prevalence rates of major risk factor...
