Access to adequate water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) is essential for the health, well-being and dignity of all people. The World Health Organization South-East Asia Region has made considerable progress in WASH provision during the past two decades. However, compared with increases in coverage of improved drinking water, in some parts of the region, access to adequate sanitation remains low...

Environmental endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) are a growing concern as studies reveal their persistence and detrimental effects on wildlife. Microorganisms are known to affect the transformation of steroid EDCs; however, the diversity of estrogen-degrading microorganisms and the range of transformations they mediate remain relatively little studied. In mesocosms, low concentrations of add...

We evaluated 23 patients treated with neoadjuvant methotrexate, vinblastine, doxorubicin and cisplatin for muscle invasive bladder carcinoma with serial bladder wash flow cytometry and serial urinary cytology. The sensitivities of bladder wash flow cytometry and cytology in detecting bladder cancer were 74 and 47 per cent, respectively, based on subsequent diagnosis from biopsy and cystectomy s...

The present study was aimed to use spent wash as a substitute for expensive commercial media for Rhizobial cultures. Growth of Rhizobium strains at different concentrations of spent wash was observed and found maximum at 50% spent wash. Bacteria were grown on 50% spent wash which produced remarkable results and competed with standard media like tryptone yeast extract, Rhizobium minimal and yeas...

Las Vegas Wash, a natural wash east of Las Vegas, Nevada, carries storrnwater, groundwater drainage, and sewage effluent from two sewage treatment plants to Lake Mead. Over 80 percent of the normal discharge of approximately 3.4 m3/s (120 ft3/s) consists of effluent from the City of Las Vegas and Clark County sewage treatment plants. Beginning in the 1950s, a large wetland area developed along ...

Modern anaesthesia workstations are reassuringly tight and are Background: equipped with effective gas monitoring, thus providing good opportunities for low/minimal flow anaesthesia. A prerequisite for effective low flow anaesthesia is the possibility to rapidly increase and decrease gas concentrations in the circle system, thereby controlling the depth of anaesthesia. We Methods: studied the w...

We describe a new method for the immobilisation of DNA into defined patterns with sub-micron resolution, using the fluorous effect. The method is fully reversible via a simple solvent wash, allowing the patterning, regeneration and re-patterning of surfaces with no degradation in binding efficiency following multiple removal/attachment cycles of different DNA sequences.

Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WaSH) technologies and behaviors can prevent infection by soil-transmitted helminth species independently, but may also interact in complex ways. However, these interactions are poorly understood. The purpose of this study was to characterize how school and home WaSH exposures were associated with Ascaris lumbricoides infection and to identify relevant interactio...

Acknowledging the importance of WASH practices in health establishments, policy makers, national and international concerned stakeholders, and the World Health Organization (WHO) have prioritized the issue and thus, a target for attaining universal basic coverage of WASH in health care facilities by the year 2030 has been set.[1] However, at the same time multiple challenges have been identifie...
