The interaction mechanism of sodium dodecyl sulfonate (NaDS) with mineral fluorite has been investigated by Infrared Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR). Measurements have been done using a modified ATR cell which allows the study of powdered samples without previous manipulations. Adsorption experiments were carried out at 25°C and pH 6.5. Also measurements of the contact angle for water. glycer...

To develop reverse osmosis membranes with high water permeance, new organically bridged trialkoxysilanes, 1,4-bis (triethoxysilylmethyl)1,2,3-triazole (BTES-MAz) and 3-methyl-1,4-bis(triethoxysilylmethyl)-1,2,3-triazol-3-ium iodide (BTES-MAz-MeI), containing 1,2,3-triazole moieties as hydrophilic and rigid units were synthesized. The monomers were polymerized via sol–gel reactions to yield film...

The atomic structure of an electrodeposited Ni catalyst film is dominated by extensive di-μ-oxido bridging between Ni(III/IV) ions, as revealed by X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The structure is surprisingly similar to that of an analogous Co-based film and colloidal Mn-based catalysts. Structural requirements for water oxidation are discussed.

The π-conjugated polymer, PQBOC8, can be easily assembled into a large-area crystalline ultrathin film at the CHCl3/water interface. A phototransistor based on this ultrathin film showed a large photoresponsivity of 970 A W(-1), and a photocurrent/dark current ratio of 1.36 × 10(4) under a very low white light irradiation.

Visual observations on rates and modes of water penetration into black bean seeds and into wheat and sorghum kernels during conditioning were accomplished by an autoradiographic procedure that eliminates a freezing microtome and liquid and stripping film emulsions. Seeds soaked in tritiated H(2)O were hand sectioned before freeze-quenching in liquid N(2) and subsequent block autoradiography on ...

Purpose: To evaluate the radiation attenuation properties of PC-ISO, a bio-compatible, sterilizable 3D printing material and its suitability for customized gynecologic (GYN) brachytherapy 15 applicators. Method: A custom radiochromic film dosimetry apparatus was 3D-printed in PC-ISO. The apparatus contained a single catheter channel and a slit to hold a radiochromic segment. A brachytherapy dos...

We have fabricated a BiOBr film for the first time through water-air interfacial self-assembly, which is a green, easily processable and environmentally friendly strategy. Moreover, an ultraviolet photodetector based on the BiOBr film exhibited excellent stability and a fast response time.

In the present study, an experimental investigation was conducted to quantify the dynamics of the water droplet impact process on a solid surface in order to elucidate underlying physics to improve our understanding of the important microphysical processes pertinent to aircraft icing phenomena. The Reynolds number (Re) and Weber number (We) of the water droplets ranged from Re  1700 to 4900, a...

Efficient visible light-induced photoelectrochemical oxidation of water was achieved using a tungsten(iv) oxide (WO(3)) film composed of perpendicularly oriented plate-like crystallites, a flake-wall film, prepared on a transparent conductive substrate by controlling anisotropic crystal growth of tungsten oxide hydrate (WO(3).H(2)O) followed by calcination.

Basic assumption and accuracy of complex permittivity measurement by perturbation technique are proposed to be verified by FDTD simulation of experimental cavity with QuickWave-3D. Determination of dielectric constant and loss factor of a piece of wet movie-film in rectangular resonator is shown to be very sensitive to film position and approved to be valid for low contents of water.
