Background and purpose - Patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has been introduced to improve alignment and reduce outliers, increase efficiency, and reduce operation time. In order to improve our understanding of the outcomes of patient-specific instrumentation, we conducted a meta-analysis. Patients and methods - We identified randomized and quasi-randomized...

BACKGROUND Intraoperative monitoring of motor evoked potentials by transcranial electric stimulation is popular in neurosurgery for monitoring motor function preservation. Some authors have reported that the peg-screw electrodes screwed into the skull can more effectively conduct current to the brain compared to subdermal cork-screw electrodes screwed into the skin. The aim of this study was to...

BACKGROUND/AIMS To assess the detectability of the lesions with magnetic resonance (MR) colonography using dark lumen technique that had been detected on conventional colonoscopy. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 38 patients who were suspected to have a colorectal mass between April 2008 and June 2010 were included in this prospective study. Warm tap water was administered via a rectal tube t...

We present a system for the automatic retrieval of images with coronal loops from the solar image database captured by the SOHO/EIT satellite [1]. Our image retrieval system provides relevant data to astrophysicists who need such data to perform studies that shed light on the mysteries behind solar activities and to analyze the relations between coronal loops and other solar events. As part of ...

PURPOSE To quantitatively evaluate growth plates around the knees in adolescent soccer players utilizing the diffusion-weighted MR imaging (DWI). METHODS The knees and adjacent growth plates of eleven 14-year-old male soccer players were evaluated by MRI before (end of season's summer break) and after two months of intense soccer training. MRI evaluation was conducted in coronal plane by PD-F...

Six patients, 6 to 13 years old, with corpus callosal abnormalities diagnosed by electroencephalography or CT were studied with a 0.15 T MR imager to determine the effectiveness of MRI in evaluating midline anomalies. Spin-echo images in the coronal, axial, and sagittal planes were obtained in two patients with Aicardi's syndrome and partial agenesis of the corpus callosum, in one patient with ...

PURPOSE To evaluate the relative value of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging versus computed tomography (CT) in the diagnosis of inflammatory paranasal sinus disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS In 30 patients suspected of having or known to have inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, both coronal CT and coronal T1-weighted, three-dimensional, gradient-echo MR imaging of the paranasal sinuses were per...

BACKGROUND Sacral stress fracture is an uncommon cause of back pain. The majority of previously reported cases have been in runners. The purpose of this case report was to describe a case of sacral stress fracture in an amateur rugby player. CASE PRESENTATION A healthy 18-year-old Japanese boy who was a rugby player presented with a 3-week history of lumbago. Sagittal and axial magnetic reson...

Coronal structure and coronal heating are intimately related in magnetically active stars. Coronal structure is commonly inferred from radio interferometry and from eclipse and rotational modulation studies. We discuss to what extent flares may be responsible for coronal structure and global observable properties in magnetically active stars.
