This paper reports on an endavour of creating basic linguistic resources for geo-referencing of Polish free-text documents. We have defined a fine-grained named entity hierarchy, produced an exhaustive gazetteer, and developed named-entity grammars for Polish. Additionally, an annotated corpus for the cadastral domain was prepared for evaluation purposes. Our baseline approach to geo-referencin...

We apply techniques recently introduced in quantum cosmology to the Schwarzschild metric inside the horizon and near the black hole singularity at r = 0. In particular, we use the quantization introduced by Husain and Winkler, which is suggested by Loop Quantum Gravity and is based on an alternative to the Schrödinger representation introduced by Halvorson. Using this quantization procedure, we...

Recently Stefanics et al. (2014) reviewed the visual (v) mismatch negativity (MMN), a negative shift in voltage of an event-related potential (ERP) to an unpredictable, rare, deviant stimulus in a regular sequence of identical, standard stimuli. Stefanics et al. have written a wonderfully comprehensive review of the vMMN, concluding that it might be a sign of predictive coding (Mumford, 1992; F...

This proposal describes a project that Richelle Winkler will pursue as part of her dissertation research in conjunction with a group of community residents in the Brainerd Lakes Area. The goal of this proposal is to summarize the research goals, methods, budget, and expected products. This proposal is negotiable in the sense that any agreed upon project should meet both the needs of the researc...

The hat guessing number is a graph invariant based on game introduced by Winkler. Using new vertex decomposition argument involving an edge density theorem of Erdős for hypergraphs, we show that the all outerplanar graphs less than 2125000. We also define class layered planar graphs, which contains and every has bounded number.

A new fossil genus of net-winged beetles, Protolopheros gen. n., and a new species, Protolopheros hoffeinsorum sp. n., are described from the Baltic amber. The new taxon is placed in Erotini, next to Lopheros Leconte, 1881. The extant Pseudaplatopterus (Eropterus) Green, 1951, comb. n. is lowered in rank and placed as a subgenus of the fossil Pseudaplatopterus Kleine, 1940. The extant Kolibaceu...

Two players want to eat a sliced pizza by alternately picking its pieces. The pieces may be of various sizes. After the first piece is eaten every subsequently picked piece must be adjacent to some previously eaten. We provide a strategy for the starting player to eat 4 9 of the total size of the pizza. This is best possible and settles a conjecture of Peter Winkler.
