Coexistent Brugada syndrome and Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome is rare, and as such poses management challenges. The overlap of symptoms attributable to each condition, the timing of ventricular stimulation after accessory pathway ablation and the predictive value of programmed stimulation in Brugada syndrome are controversial. We describe a case of coexistent Brugada syndrome and WPW syn...

The Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome is one of the major causes of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia during pregnancy. Both incidence and symptoms of PSVT are exacerbated during pregnancy and may significantly affect maternal and fetal outcomes during caesarean delivery. We outline the anesthetic management of a patient with WPW syndrome undergoing caesarean delivery.

It is important to recognise Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome in electrocardiograms (ECG), as it may mimic ischaemic heart disease, ventricular hypertrophy and bundle branch block. In addition, ECG can aid in the localisation of the accessory pathway. Recognising WPW syndrome allows for risk stratification, the identification of associated conditions and the institution of appropriate manag...

A case of idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis (IHSS) associated with Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome is studied. On three occasions preexcitation was suppressed with an intravenous injection of ajmaline. The left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO) was analyzed; when WPW syndrome activation disappeared, the obstruction decreased. The ventricular depolarization pathway is n...

he effects upon mechanical ventricular perforTxn, of disturbances of cardiac rhythm and oonduction have long been a topic of intense interest to cardiovascular investigators. Nevertheless, the precise mechanical consequences of many electrophysiologic disorders remain uncertain. Recently, echocardiography has provided a noninvasive diagnostic method capable of examination of intracardiac anatom...

Percutenous catheter ablation of the accessory pathway in Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome is a highly successful mode of therapy. Sudden cardiac arrest survivors associated with WPW syndrome should undergo radiofrequency catheter ablation. WPW syndrome associated with familial atrial fibrillation is a very rare condition. Herein, we describe a case who presented with sudden cardiac arrest second...

Radiofrequency ablation has been shown to be a safe and effective treatment strategy for the management of symptomatic patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. It is supported by a success rate of 95% and a recurrence rate of less than 5%. However, ablation of accessory pathways can be challenging at times. The causes for failure can be grouped into three categories - unusual location of t...

In April 2009, a wild maned wolf, Chrysocyon brachyurus, was captured in an area of cerrado in Brasília, DF, Brazil, with screw worm maggots in external wounds. Fifty larvae were bred in the laboratory and eight adults of Cochliomyia hominivorax (Coquerel) emerged 10 days after pupation. This is the first report of a myiasis by C. hominivorax in a free-living maned wolf in Brazil.

recurrent paroxysmal tachycardia was admitted to hospital because of chest pain. The electrocardiogram (ECG) on admission (Figure 1A) showed signs suggestive of an antero septal accessory pathway, as well as ST segment elevation in leads V1 through V4, aVL and aVR, with elevated levels of cardiac enzymes. This was consistent with a diagnosis of Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome with acute myocardi...
