Workflow management systems (WfMSs) are useful tools for bioinformaticians. As experiences with using WfMSs accumulate, shortcomings of current systems become apparent. In this paper, we focus on practical issues that hinder WfMS users and that arise in the design and execution of workflows, and in access of web services. We present e-BioFlow, a workflow engine that demonstrates in which way a ...
In this paper, we discuss a structural approach to automatic performance modelling of workflow systems. This uses a synthesis of performance evaluation process algebra (pepa) and a pattern-based hierarchical expression scheme. Such systems are important in cases where the performance models must be updated regularly, and dynamically, based on the current state of the resources.
Due to diversified and frequently changing demands from customers, technological advances and global competition, manufacturers rely on collaboration with their business partners to share costs, risks and expertise. How to take advantage of advancement of technologies to effectively support operations and create competitive advantage is critical for manufacturers to survive. To respond to these...
The research work of Wil van der Aalst, Arthur ter Hofstede, Bartek Kiepuszewski, and Alistair Barros has resulted in the identification of 21 patterns that describe the behavior of business processes. This paper reviews how two graphical process modeling notations, tShe BPMN Business Process Diagram from the Business Process Management Initiative (BPMI), and the UML 2.0 Activity Diagram from t...
INTRODUCTION For better or worse, the imposition of work-hour limitations on house-staff has imperiled continuity and/or improved decision-making. Regardless, the workflow of every physician team in every academic medical centre has been irrevocably altered. We explored the use of cognitive task analysis (CTA) techniques, most commonly used in other high-stress and time-sensitive environments, ...
Background: Computational models in biology encode molecular and cell biological processes. These models often can be represented as biochemical reaction networks. Studying such networks, one is mostly interested in systems that share similar reactions and mechanisms. Typical goals of an investigation include understanding of the parts of a model, identification of reoccurring patterns, and rec...
Background and Aims: In recent years, the dentistry workflow has developed considerably. By the introduction of computers and their various applications, the effectiveness and efficiency of treatment has increased enormously. Considering engineering concepts in the workflow, it is necessary for participants to assess different steps and data transferring between various software and hardware de...
The significant increase in using reservoir simulation models poses significant challenges in the design and calibration of models. Moreover, conventional model calibration, history matching, is usually performed using a trial and error process of adjusting model parameters until a satisfactory match is obtained. In addition, history matching is an inverse problem, and hence it may have non-uni...
The paper presents a method for designing a production process simulation system using workflow management technique, which consists of three parts: process model, organization resource model and workflow engine. Based on this method, we put forward a production process simulation system structure, and discuss the function of the key modules in detail. At last we present a sample in practical a...
