With using the carbon nano-tube (CNT) of high chemical activity, nano-TiCx particles with different growth shapes were synthesized through the self-propagating high temperature in the 80 wt.% metal (Cu, Al, and Fe)-Ti-CNT systems. The growth shapes of the TiCx particles are mainly octahedron in the Cu- and Al-Ti-CNT systems, while mainly cube- and sphere-like in the Fe-Ti-CNT system.

Carbon nanotube (CNT) film electrodes were fabricated by a novel process involving the electrostatic spray deposition (ESD) of a CNT solution. Acid treated CNTs were dispersed in an aqueous solvent through sonication and then the CNT solution was electrostatically sprayed onto a metallic substrate by the ESD method. The CNT film electrodes showed well-entangled and interconnected porous structu...

A composite of oxazine and cyclodextrin-modified carbon nanotubes (CNT-CDs) was prepared to enhance the photoluminescence of carbon nanotubes. The results show that there is a sensitizing effect of oxazine on the photoluminescence of CNT-CDs, which is probably due to energy transfer between organic molecule and CNT-CDs. However, no sensitizing effect on the photoluminescence of CNT with carboxy...

Carbon nanotube [CNT] interconnection bump joining methodology has been successfully demonstrated using flip chip test structures with bump pitches smaller than 150 μm. In this study, plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition approach is used to grow the CNT bumps onto the Au metallization lines. The CNT bumps on the die substrate are then 'inserted' into the CNT bumps on the carrier substrate ...

Molecular dynamic simulations reveal that the ultrathin carbon nanotube (CNT) (2, 1) with a reconstructed structure exhibits a surprisingly low thermal conductivity, which is only ~16-30% of those in regular CNTs, e.g. CNT (2, 2) and (5, 5). Detailed lattice dynamic calculations suggest that the acoustic phonon modes greatly soften in CNT (2, 1) as compared to regular CNTs. Moreover, both phono...

This article presents a regression-tree-based meta-analysis of rodent pulmonary toxicity studies of uncoated, nonfunctionalized carbon nanotube (CNT) exposure. The resulting analysis provides quantitative estimates of the contribution of CNT attributes (impurities, physical dimensions, and aggregation) to pulmonary toxicity indicators in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid: neutrophil and macrophage c...

MnO2/carbon nanotube [CNT] nanocomposites with a CNT core/porous MnO2 sheath hierarchy architecture are synthesized by a simple hydrothermal treatment. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy analyses reveal that birnessite-type MnO2 is produced through the hydrothermal synthesis. Morphological characterization reveals that three-dimensional hierarchy architecture is built with a highly porous...

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are considered the most promising candidates to replace Cu and Al in a large number of electrical, mechanical and thermal applications. Although most CNT industrial applications require macro and micro size CNT fiber assemblies, several techniques to make conducting CNT fibers, threads, yarns and ropes have been reported to this day, and improvement of their electrical a...

Different grades of chemically functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNT) have been processed by spraying layer-by-layer (sLbL) to obtain an array of chemoresistive transducers for volatile organic compound (VOC) detection. The sLbL process led to random networks of CNT less conductive, but more sensitive to vapors than filtration under vacuum (bucky papers). Shorter CNT were also found to be more s...

Vertical carbon nanotube (CNT) forests bonded at room temperature with sprayed on nanoscale polymer coatings are found by measurement to produce thermal resistances that are on a par with those of conventional metallic solders. These results are achieved by reducing the high contact resistance at CNT tips, which has hindered the development of high performance thermal interface materials based ...
