We present an approximate analytical solution of the Cahn-Hilliard equation describing the coalescence during a first order phase transition. We have identified all the intermediate profiles, stationary solutions of the noiseless Cahn-Hilliard equation. Using properties of the soliton lattices, periodic solutions of the Ginzburg-Landau equation, we have construct a family of ansatz describing c...
The aim of this article is twofold: (1). develop a strategy to prove the existence of chaos in weakly quasilinear systems, (2). strengthen the existing results on chaos in partial differential equations. First, we study a sineGordon equation containing weakly quasilinear terms, and existence of chaos is proved. Then, we study a Ginzburg-Landau equation containing weakly quasilinear terms, and e...
In the asymptotic limit of a large Ginzburg-Landau parameter, we give a new asymptotic formula for the L-norm of the Ginzburg-Landau order parameter. The formula is valid in the bulk regime where the intensity of the applied magnetic eld is of the same order as the Ginzburg-Landau parameter and strictly below the second critical eld. Our formula complements the celebrated one of Sandier-Serfaty...
We introduce a duality construction for toric Landau-Ginzburg models, applicable to complete intersections in toric varieties via the sigma model / Landau-Ginzburg model correspondence. This construction is shown to reconstruct those of Batyrev-Borisov, Berglund-Hübsch, Givental, and HoriVafa. It can be done in more general situations, and provides partial resolutions when the above constructio...
The effect of a finite geometry on the two-dimensional complex Ginzburg-Landau equation is addressed. Boundary effects induce the formation of novel states. For example target like-solutions appear as robust solutions under Dirichlet boundary conditions. Synchronization of plane waves emitted by boundaries, entrainment by corner emission, and anchoring of defects by shock lines are also reported.
In the search for suitable new media for the propagation of (3+1) D optical light bullets, we show that nonlinear dissipation provides interesting possibilities. Using the complex cubic-quintic Ginzburg-Landau equation model with localized initial conditions, we are able to observe stable light bullet propagation or higher-order transverse pattern formation. The type of evolution depends on the...
We investigate the asymptotic behavior at time infinity of solutions close to a nonzero constant equilibrium for the Gross-Pitaevskii (or Ginzburg-Landau-Schrödinger) equation. We prove that, in dimensions larger than 3, small perturbations can be approximated at time infinity by the linearized evolution, and the wave operators are homeomorphic around 0 in certain Sobolev spaces.
We consider periodic traveling wave solutions to the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) that have been shown to persist when the NLS is perturbed to the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation (CGL). In particular, we show that these periodic traveling waves are spectrally stable solutions of NLS with respect to periodic perturbations. Furthermore, we use an argument based on the Fredholm a...
