Sometimes, when 3D CG objects are viewed from a distance, a great deal of geometry can end up inside a single pixel. When this happens, full-sized facets, or pixels in a displacement map should play the role of traditional micro-facets. Here we describe how to alter traditional shading calculations to take this into account.

BACKGROUND To set up a method for measuring radiographic displacement of unstable pelvic ring fractures based on standardized X-ray images and then test its reliability and validity using a software-based measurement technique. METHODS Twenty-five patients that were diagnosed as AO/OTA type B or C pelvic fractures with unilateral pelvis fractured and dislocated were eligible for inclusion by ...

In this paper an innovative balloon-stent design method, which conjugates 3D finite-element approach, is presented. The method is based on a large strain and large displacement formulation, with multi-objective optimization using Genetic Algorithm (GA). This procedure allows us to automatically obtain new geometries that improve stent performance and to analyze the relationship between geometri...

Oxygen doping dimples the CuO2 planes of YBa2Cu3O6.8−6.92 by displacing copper normal to the planes and further towards Ba. The correlated oxygen displacements, however, are constrained to the in-plane axes. This displacement pattern is discussed in terms of doping dependent Cu 4s–3d hybridizations.

DeepWarp is an efficient and highly re-usable deep neural network (DNN) based nonlinear deformable simulation framework. Unlike other deep learning applications such as image recognition, where different inputs have a uniform and consistent format (e.g. an array of all the pixels in an image), the input for deformable simulation is quite variable, high-dimensional, and parametrization-unfriendl...

Dynamic DNA nanotechnology often uses toehold-mediated strand displacement for controlling reaction kinetics. Although the dependence of strand displacement kinetics on toehold length has been experimentally characterized and phenomenologically modeled, detailed biophysical understanding has remained elusive. Here, we study strand displacement at multiple levels of detail, using an intuitive mo...

| Magnetic resonance (MR) tagging has shown great potential for noninvasive measurement of the motion of a beating heart. In MR tagged images, the heart appears with a spatially encoded pattern that moves with the tissue. The position of the tag pattern in each frame of the image sequence can be used to obtain a measurement of the 3D displacement eld of the myocardium. The measurements are spar...

This chapter describes a robust approach for detecting moving objects from on-board stereo vision systems. It relies on a feature point quaternion-based registration, which avoids common problems that appear when computationally expensive iterative-based algorithms are used on dynamic environments. The proposed approach consists of three main stages. Initially, feature points are extracted and ...

The characteristics of mandibular lateral displacement include lateral inclination of the occlusal plane and the differences between the right and left masticatory muscles. The aims of this investigation were to compare the mandibular stress distribution and displacement of the cervical spine using three-dimensional finite element models (3D FEM) to simulate masticatory movements and to clarify...
