The Campylopus paraleucobryoid complex, restricted to Andean South America, is discussed and a new species, C. steerei, described. These plants differ from other members of the complex in having all dorsal (abaxial) surface cells with very thick, orange outer walls. Additionally, erratus nom. nov. provided correct an earlier nomenclatural error. A key included separate five species complex.
background: langerhans cells are important in the pathogenesis of leprosy. a recent study reported that these cells were almost absent in the epidermis overlying lepromatous lesions. objective: to investigate a possible relationship between the number of langerhans cells and the histopathologic spectrum of lesions in patients with leprosy. methods: an immunohistochemical staining for s100 ...
Three gene families have been identified which interact to polarize plant lateral organs. The results suggest that organ polarity is initially determined by a signal from the shoot tip which specifies adaxial organ identity and results in repression of abaxial identity, thereby aligning the polarity of organs with the stem.
Eleven specimens of a new species of primnoid from the Argentinean deep sea are here presented. Armadillogorgia albertoi sp. nov. differs from A. cyathella Bayer, 1980 in colony and polyp morphology, abaxial sclerite number and shape. It is the second species of the hitherto monospecific genus, and the northernmost record of the genus.
Although changes in stomatal response to elevated doses of cadmium has already been observed several plants, few studies have focused on this phenomenon more detail. The effects different Cd2+ (50 and 100 mg.kg-1 soil) leaf area characteristics (number stomata, number epidermal cells, index size stomata) faba bean (Vicia L. cultivar Aštar) were studied after 15 days heavy metal treatment. No vi...
Leaf primordia form around the shoot apical meristem, which consists of indeterminate stem cells. Upon initiation of leaf development, adaxial-abaxial patterning is crucial for appropriate lateral expansion, via cellular proliferation, and the formation of flat symmetric leaves. Many genes that specify such patterning have been identified, but regulation by upstream factors of the expression of...
An X-irradiated newt limb is able to regenerate if non-irradiated skin as well as non-irradiated muscle is transplanted to the stump. Non-irradiated epidermis is brought to the stump with a skin graft but not with a muscle graft. In order to know whether limb regeneration required healthy epidermis or not, a triploid skin cuff was set at the most proximal level of an irradiated limb and muscle ...
