A Bloom filter is a simple randomized data structure that answers membership query with no false negative and a small false positive probability. It is an elegant data compression technique for membership information, and has broad applications. In this paper, we generalize the traditional Bloom filter to Adaptive Bloom Filter, which incorporates the information on the query frequencies and the...

Recently a new real-valued oversampled filter bank has been proposed which reduces the “inband” alias. The filter bank consists of at least three channels which are subsampled by different subsampling ratios. In this paper we investigate into the applicability of this filter bank for adaptive subband filtering and compare the setup with existing subband and fullband techniques.

In this paper, we propose a new method, called an adaptive skin color xlter, for detecting skin color regions in a color image. The use of skin color provides an e$cient way to "nd candidate regions for faces or hands in color images. However, it is not easy to "nd skin color regions because the color of skin regions varies from image to image due to a variety of reasons. Since most of the prev...

Form the past several decades' noise cancellation in speech signal gains researchers' attention. Several techniques were developed for noise cancellation among them optimal wiener filter can be the one of the most fundamental approach for noise cancellation. Later on adaptive filter was introduced to attain better performance. This paper shows the capacity of wiener filter and adaptiv...

We describe a supervised learning procedure for estimating the relation between a set of local image features and the local optimal parameters of an adaptive bilateral filter. A set of two entropy-based features is used to represent the properties of the image at a local scale. Experimental results show that our entropy-based adaptive bilateral filter outperforms other extensions of the bilater...

Adaptive signal processing or adaptive filter design is continuous research topic in digital filtering. Some adaptive algorithms including a gradient type algorithm for blind system [Higa et al., 1999], an algorithm for lattice all-pass filter with minimum multipliers [Okello et al., 1999], Sign-Sign algorithm based on Gaussian distributed tap weights [Koike, 2000], INLMS algorithm [Fujii et al...

Adaptive middleware and wireless networks are hot topics in many discussions today. Literature describes a lot of approaches which are based upon existing middleware technologies by adding functionalities for adaptive behavior. Disadvantage of this proceeding is the resulting dependence upon the interface provided by the underlying middleware. This paper will describe a whole new approach for a...

Presented in this paper are low-power and high-speed algorithms and architectures for complex adaptive lters. These architectures have been derived via the application of algebraic and algorithm transformations. The strength reduction transformation is applied at the algorithmic level as opposed to the traditional application at the architectural level. This results in a power reduction by 21% ...

A simple adaptive filter is proposed for the restoration of smoothly varying signals in a nonstationary noisy background. The filter switches between the median filter and the running mean filter according to local estimates of the tail behavior (impulsivity) of the noise distribution. A theoretical threshold is derived against which the local estimate is compared. The local median is selected ...

In this paper we offer a ”birds eye view” of the field of adaptive filtering with the aim of suggesting a new approach to its teaching. Following a brief survey of the diverse lines of thought underpinning the traditional approach to the presentation of the most common adaptive filter algorithms, we point out that all major families of adaptive filter algorithms can be more easily developed and...
