The zonula adherens (ZA), a type of adherens junction (AJ), plays a major role in epithelial cell-cell adhesions. It remains unknown how the ZA is remodeled during epithelial reorganization. Here we found that the ZA was converted to another type of AJ with punctate morphology (pAJ) at the margins of epithelial colonies. The F-actin-stabilizing protein EPLIN (epithelial protein lost in neoplasm...

Unlike any other known sensory receptor, the hair cell uses positive feedback to augment the stimulus to which it responds. In the internal ears of many vertebrates, hair cells amplify the inputs to their mechanosensitive hair bundles. Outer hair cells of the mammalian cochlea display a unique form of somatal motility that may underlie their contribution to amplification. In other receptor orga...

The poset M(n) has as its elements the n-tuples of integers a = (a1, a2, . . . , an) satisfying 0 = a1 = · · · = aj < aj+1 < · · · an ≤ n for some j, 0 ≤ j ≤ n. The order relation is defined by a ≤ b iff ai ≤ bi for 1 ≤ i ≤ n. We show that the cover graph of M(n) has a Hamiltonian path if and only if ( n+1 2 ) is odd and n 6= 5.

Let L = {1 b1 , . . . , as bs }, where for every i ∈ [s], ai bi ∈ [0, 1) is an irreducible fraction. Let F = {A1, . . . , Am} be a family of subsets of [n]. We say F is a fractional L-intersecting family if for every distinct i, j ∈ [m], there exists an ab ∈ L such that |Ai ∩Aj | ∈ {ab |Ai|, ab |Aj |}. In this paper, we introduce and study the notion of fractional L-intersecting families.

Sprouting angiogenesis, crucial for the development of new blood vessels, is a prime example of collective migration in which endothelial cells migrate as a group joined via cadherin-containing adherens junctions (AJ). The actomyosin apparatus is connected to AJ and generates contractile forces, which, depending on their strength and duration, increase or decrease cell cohesion. Thus, appropria...

The paper studies the counting function R2(n, k) = ∑ a1+a2+···+ak=n (ai,aj)=1 i 6=j 1, ai ≥ 1, k ≥ 2 with ai, n and k positive integers and establishes a relationship between R2(n, k) and P2(n, k) where P2(n, k) = ∑ a1+a2+···+ak=n 1≤a1≤a2≤···≤ak≤n (ai,aj)=1 i 6=j 1, ai ≥ 1, k ≥ 2 with ai, n, k positive integers. 1. PRELIMINARIES Gould [4], studied the number-theoretic function R(n, k) = ∑ a1+a2...

Cadherin-based adherens junctions (AJs) mediate cell adhesion and regulate cell shape change. The nectin-afadin complex also localizes to AJs and links to the cytoskeleton. Mammalian afadin has been suggested to be essential for adhesion and polarity establishment, but its mechanism of action is unclear. In contrast, Drosophila melanogaster's afadin homologue Canoe (Cno) has suggested roles in ...
