Aneurysmal bone cyst is a benign tumor-like bone lesion. This report concerns a 43 year-old male patient diagnosed with a primary aneurysmal bone cyst of his right patella. His main presentation was anterior knee pain. The patient was treated with arthroscopic excisional biopsy of the cyst and curettage, followed by filling the cavity with bone cement at a second stage. During the 5-year follow...

Intraosseous lipoma is a benign tumor of the bone. It is mostly seen in the metaphyses of the long bones and calcaneus. There are few documented cases of intraosseous lipomas in the jaw. Clinically, the lesion is usually silent and radiologically it appears as a radiolucent area rarely including some radio-opacities. Diagnosis is based on clinical, radiological and histopathological features. S...

Although osteochondroma is the most common benign bone tumor, the lumbar spine is anuncommon localization for solitary osteochondroma. Solitary lumbar osteochondromas rarely affect the neurological structures, because most of the lesions grow out of the spinal canal. We report a 48-year-old patient suffering from right foot-drop due to acute compression of right L4 nerve root by...

Fibromyxoma of bone is a rare benign tumor of fibrous tissue origin. The typical location is the jaws. Sporadic extragnathic cases have been reported, but fibromyxoma of the spine has not been reported. The histological appearance of fibromyxoma is benign and includes abundant extracellular fibrous and myxoid stroma with varying amounts of calcification and ossification. Myxoid changes are usua...

We present a case of ethmoid mucocele occurring in a two-month-old child, and associated (presumably causally) with a benign fibroosseous lesion of the ethmoid bone. These two conditions may be more frequently associated than previously recognized; MR greatly facilitates their evaluation.

Desmoplastic fibromas are rare, benign bone tumours, which often behave in a locally aggressive manner. In the head and neck region they are most commonly seen in the mandible and have been treated in various ways. We present an unusual presentation of the lesion, which was subsequently treated by the less commonly used technique of enucleation, with good results.

Benign osteoblastoma is an uncommon tumor in the skull and particularly rare in the temporal bone. This article presents the clinical, radiologic, and pathologic findings of the fifth case known to involve the temporal bone, and only th second case limited to the temporal bone itself. Subtotal removal was performed following embolization of the tumor. The patient currently has no evidence of di...

Osteoid Osteoma (OO) is a very common small benign osteoblastic tumor. It represents 10% of all bone benign lesions, and is usually localized to the proximal metadiaphysis of the femur. We report the case of an OO localized in the distal inner metadiaphysis of the fibula. To our knowledge this is the first report in literature. We performed enbloc resection because of the deep localization of t...

BACKGROUND Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a developmental disease of bone in which there is replacement of normal spongiosa and filling of the medullary cavity of affected bones by an abnormal fibrous tissue that contains trabeculae of poorly calcified primitive bone formed by osseous metaplasia. Fibrous dysplasia is a common benign bone disease existing in monostotic and polyostotic forms. It is so...
