Examining climate-related satellite data that strongly relate to seasonal phenomena requires appropriate methods for detecting the seasonality to accommodate different temporal resolutions, high signal variability and consecutive missing values in the data series. Detection of satellite-based Land Surface Temperature (LST) seasonality is essential and challenging due to missing data and noise i...

It is shown that cubic spline interpolation with the not-a-knot side condition converges to any C-interpoland without any mesh-ratio restriction as the mesh size goes to zero. AMS (MOS) Subject Classifications: 41A15, 41A05

Morphing is the process of changing one figure into another. Some numerical methods of 3D surface morphing by deformable modeling and conformal mapping are shown in this study. It is well known that there exists a unique Riemann conformal mapping from a simply connected surface into a unit disk by the Riemann mapping theorem. The dilation and relative orientations of the 3D surfaces can be link...

We introduce a modified particle method for semi-linear hyperbolic systems with highly oscillatory solutions. The main feature of this modified particle method is that we do not require different families of characteristics to meet at one point. In the modified particle method, we update the ith component of the solution along its own characteristics, and interpolate the other components of the...

BACKGROUND Manual segmentations of the whole intracranial vault in high-resolution magnetic resonance images are often regarded as very time-consuming. Therefore it is common to only segment a few linearly spaced intracranial areas to estimate the whole volume. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate how the validity of intracranial volume estimates is affected by the chosen interpolat...

An explicit representation of a C1 piecewise rational cubic spline has been developed, which can produce a monotonic interpolant to given monotonic data. The explicit representation is easily constructed, and numerical experiments indicate that the method produces visually pleasing curves. Furthermore, an error analysis of the interpolant is given.

Fractal methodology provides a general frame for the understanding of real-world phenomena. In particular, the classical methods of real-data interpolation can be generalized by means of fractal techniques. In this paper, we describe a procedure for the construction of smooth fractal functions, with the help of Hermite osculatory polynomials. As a consequence of the process, we generalize any s...

This work suggests a new variational approach to the task of computer aided restoration of incomplete characters, residing in a highly noisy document. We model character strokes as the movement of a pen with a varying radius. Following this model, a cubic spline representation is being utilized to perform gradient descent steps, while maintaining interpolation at some initial (manually sampled)...

This paper presents a novel approach for removing gradient artefacts from the EEG signal recorded during continuous EEG-fMRI, which are influenced by transient head movements of the subject within the magnetic scanner. Transient head movements provoke abrupt changes in the gradient artefact waveform, in such a way that they compromise the estimation of an artefact waveform to be subtracted and ...
