In the neonate, Group B beta-haemolytic streptococcal osteomyelitis presents with few inflammatory signs, a mild clinical course, extensive bony destruction, and usually single bone involvement. Onset is late (10 to 60 days after birth) and obstetric trauma appears to predispose to infection. Serotype studies suggest transmission from mother to child at the time of delivery.

Improvements in obstetric care have certainly led to a decrease in the incidence of birth related spinal cord trauma but unfortunately it is still encountered from time to time. Yates (1959) found evidence of distortional trauma to the cervical spine in 45% of perinatal necropsies....

In 1954 Burke studied 46 infants who had had convulsions in the first 2 weeks of life; in 70% of the series she found birth trauma or anoxia during birth to have been the likely cause of the fit, and over a third of the infants co...

Neuroglial heterotopia can be intracranial or extracranial. A typical example of extracranial heterotopia is nasal glioma, which can be isolated or can communicate directly with the intracranium. The most sensitive investigat...
