The Casimir force is one of the most accessible experimental consequences of vacuum fluctuations in the macroscopic world. It is the most significant force between neutral, non-magnetic objects at distances on the micrometer scale and below. For many experiments searching for novel short-range forces predicted by unification models, theoretical calculations of the Casimir force are crucial and ...
In this Letter, we consider the fluctuation-induced force exerted between two plates separated by a distance L in a fluid with a temperature gradient. We predict that for a range of distances L, this nonequilibrium force is anomalously large compared to other Casimir forces. The physical reason is that correlations in a nonequilibrium fluid are generally of longer range than other correlations,...
We measure the colloidal interaction between two silica microspheres in aqueous solution distance range from $0.2\,\mu$m to $0.5\,\mu$m with help of optical tweezers. When employing a sample low salt concentration, resulting is dominated by repulsive double-layer which fully characterized. The suppressed when adding $0.22\,$M our sample, thus leading purely attractive Casimir signal. analyzing ...
The scaling properties of the free energy and some of universal amplitudes of a group of models belonging to the universality class of the quantum nonlinear sigma model and the O(n) quantum φ4 model in the limit n → ∞ as well as the quantum spherical model, with nearest-neighbor and long-range interactions (decreasing at long distances r as 1/rd+σ) is presented. For temperature driven phase tra...
Results of lattice analysis indicate that the static potential in SU(3) gauge theory is proportional to eigenvalue of quadratic Casimir operator for the corresponding representation with a good accuracy. We discuss the pattern of deviation from this Casimir scaling in gluodynamics in terms of correlators of path-ordered gauge-invariant operators defined on the worldsheet of the confining string.
We study the actions of the Lie algebra nsl(2,C) of SL(2,C) and the associated Casimir operator on the space of pseudodifferential operators of n variables. We describe the effect of the Casimir operator on a pseudodifferential operator in connection with the symbol map and construct an nsl(2,C)-invariant lifting of the symbol map.
From the SU(2) and SU(3) lattice QCD studies of the static potential between color charges in various dimensional representations, there arises the Casimir scaling hypothesis for the intermediate distance force [ 1, 2, 3]. This hypothesis tells that the ratio of forces associated with various dimensional representations of color charges, for a given color group, is determined by that of eigenva...
We study the electromagnetic Casimir interaction of a compact object contained inside a closed cavity of another compact object. We express the interaction energy in terms of the objects’ scattering matrices and translation matrices that relate the coordinate systems appropriate to each object. When the enclosing object is an otherwise empty metallic spherical shell, much larger than the intern...
We study interactions between localized scatterers on metallic carbon nanotubes by a mapping onto a onedimensional Casimir problem. Backscattering of electrons between localized scattering potentials mediates long-range forces between them. We model spatially localized scatterers by local and nonlocal potentials and treat simultaneously the effects of intravalley and intervalley backscattering....
In this paper the Casimir effect for parallel plates at finite temperature in the presence of compactified universal extra dimensions is analyzed. We show the thermal corrections to the effect in detail. We investigate the Casimir effect for different size of universal extra dimensions.
