Microfabricated semiconductor devices are becoming increasingly relevant, also for the detection of biological and chemical quantities. Especially, the “marriage” of biomolecules and silicon technology often yields successful new sensor concepts. The fabrication techniques of such silicon-based chemical sensors and biosensors, respectively, will have a distinct impact in different fields of app...

The aim of this study is experimental assay of sensitivity and stability of a bimetallic silver/gold SPR sensor chip. This chip utilizes the sensitivity of the silver and the stability of the gold. Moreover, the Silver layer (instead of usual Cr or Ti layer) was used as an adhesive intermediate layer between the Gold layer and the glass substrate. The optimization of the Gold/Silver thickness u...

BACKGROUND Previous findings have shown that the body odor of patients affected by schizophrenia contains some specific compounds. Chemical sensor technology has proved to be able to classify different odours. We investigated the possibility of using a chemical sensor array to detect body odor alteration in schizophrenic patients. MATERIAL/METHODS The sweat of subjects was sampled and analyse...

This paper presents fusion based pattern recognition approach of feature scores for chemical class identification of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by response analysis of model surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensor array. Diverse features are generated by analysis of sensor array response using three feature extraction methods: principal component analysis (PCA), independent component analysis...

A cross-reactive colorimetric sensor array composed of solvatochromic dyes in semi-liquid matrices was used to successfully discriminate among eleven common solvents. The multidimensional array response is attributed to both chemical (i.e., analyte-dye interactions) and physical (i.e., spot blooming and refractive index alteration) changes in the sensor spot.

A novel single silicon thin film field-effect-transistor (FET) is developed for use as a sensor to monitor transport and chemical properties of liquids in microfluidic systems. The sensor elements which are compatible with existing (bio-)chemical sensor schemes based on ion-sensitive-field-effect-transistors (ISFET) can detect capillary filling speed and level in aqueous solutions. Using a tran...

Today, significant attention has been brought to the development of sensitive, specific, cheap, and reliable sensors for real-time monitoring. Molecular imprinting technology is a versatile and promising technology for practical applications in many areas, particularly chemical sensors. Here, we present a chemical sensor for detecting formaldehyde, a toxic common indoor pollutant gas. Polypyrro...
