AIM To investigate the morphology and variation of the circle of Willis (COW) in healthy Chinese male adults. MATERIALS AND METHODS We analyzed cerebral magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) images of 2,246 healthy subjects using typical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and MRA. 3D-time of flight (TOF) MRA method was applied to all subjects and the classification was therefore achieved accordi...
AIM The basilar artery (BA) is the prominent median vessel of the vertebrobasilar circulation and usually terminates into two posterior cerebral arteries forming the posterior angle of the Circle of Willis (CW). To tackle different variations of CW, basilar artery acts as a guideline for neuroradiologists and neurosurgeons. Basilar termination is the most frequent site of aneurysm. Abnormalitie...
BACKGROUND The variations of the circle of Willis (CW) are clinically important as patients with effective collateral circulations have a lower risk of transient ischemic attack and stroke than those with ineffective collaterals. The aim of the present cadaveric study was to investigate the anatomical variations of the CW and to compare the frequency of prevalence of the different variations wi...
ZusammenfassungComputed tomography angiography (CTA) is one of the most commonly used modalities in diagnosis cerebrovascular diseases like ischemic strokes. Usually, anatomy interest stroke cases Circle Willis and its peripherals, cerebral arteries, as these vessels are prominent candidates for occlusions. The occlusions remains challenging, not only because large amount surrounding but also d...
OBJECTIVE SPARC is a key determinant of invasion and metastasis in some tumors, such as gliomas, melanomas and prostate tumors. SPARC can change the composition and structure of the matrix and promote angiogenesis; these effects are closely related to clinical stage and the prognosis of tumors such as meningiomas. However, little is known about the expression of SPARC in intracranial aneurysms....
Subclavian Artery Thrombosis (SAT) typically arises secondary to some form of injuries and arthrosclerosis. The contributing factors are coagulopathies and emboli. And, the conserving blood is naturally reflowed from circle of Willis. A cold, painful, cyanosis, and pulseless upper extremity are proved as the symptoms. Recently, a 42-years-old smoker, diabetic, and hyperlipidemic woman was admit...
In a case of subarachnoid hemorrhage, the arteries of the circle of Willis were left undisturbed and undissected at postmortem examination. A block of frontal lobe tissue with the attached vessels was serially sectioned disclosing in its entirety a saccular aneurysm that had ruptured at the base rather than the dome. The histology of the hemostatic process was clearly depicted.
