Urinalysis is an integral part of a thorough patient evaluation. Change in urine characteristics can give clues to help solve some of the diagnostic challenges faced by physicians. We discuss a case of a benign cause of green discoloration of urine caused by propofol infusion, which reversed following its discontinuation.
This article presents two experiments investigating the degree to which listeners can detect changes in melodies. In both studies, pairs of melodies were presented to a group of professional musicians and a group of non-musicians. In Experiment 1, musical structure and musical expertise were explored with stylistic, non-stylistic, and random melodies. Experiment 2 utilized a full-factorial desi...
We study a linear fractional differential equation with a periodic boundary condition and give the explicit form of the solution and the corresponding Green’s function. Using some properties of the Green’s function we present some new comparison results.
Spiroplasma litorale TN-1(T) (DSM 21781) was isolated from the gut of a green-eyed horsefly (Tabanus nigrovittatus), collected at Ocracoke Island in North Carolina in 1983. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of this bacterium to facilitate the investigation of its biology.
This study investigated the phenomenon of repetition blindness in schizophrenia patients and first-degree relatives of schizophrenia patients. Twelve schizophrenia patients, 13 siblings of schizophrenia patients and 26 normal controls were tested on their ability to detect the repetitions within rapidly presentated visual word lists. Schizophrenics and their relatives showed increased repetitio...
The angular spectrum representation of the electromagnetic Green's tensor has a part that is a superposition of exponentially decaying waves in the +z and -z directions (evanescent part) and a part that is a superposition of traveling waves, both of which are defined by integral representations. We have derived an asymptotic expansion for the z dependence of the evanescent part of the Green's t...
An algebra of pseudodiierential operators on an innnite wedge is discussed. A notion of ellipticity is given that is shown to be equivalent to the existence of a parametrix within the calculus. The symbols carry asymptotic information which will be needed for the description of the asymptotics of solutions to elliptic equations on manifolds with non-compact edges.
In a field study, we examined choice blindness for eyewitnesses' facial recognition decisions. Seventy-one pedestrians were engaged in a conversation by two experimenters who pretended to be tourists in the center of a European city. After a short interval, pedestrians were asked to identify the two experimenters from separate simultaneous six-person photo lineups. Following each of the two for...
Individual behavior change is a necessary condition for making a positive societal transition to a resourceconstrained future. Because we live on a planet with finite resources, behavior change interventions need to move beyond creating “green consumers” and instead foster and support “green citizens.” Green consumerism has proven largely ineffective in curbing collective rates of consumption; ...
That colour polymorphism may protect prey populations from predation is an old but rarely tested hypothesis. We examine whether colour polymorphic populations of prey exposed to avian predators in an ecologically valid visual context were exposed to increased extinction risk compared with monomorphic populations. We made 2976 artificial pastry prey, resembling Lepidoptera larvae, in four differ...
