Banyan networks are attractive for serving as the optical switch architectures due to their nice properties of small depth and absolutely signal loss uniformity. Banyan structure is one of the candidates for serving as the directional-coupler (DC)-based switching systems that can switch signals at the rate of several terabits per second. Despite many advantages, optical banyan networks suffer f...

To improve spatial resolution, positron emission tomography (PET) systems are being developed with finer detector elements. Unfortunately, using a smaller crystal size increases intercrystal Compton scatter and X-ray escape crosstalk, causing positioning errors that can lead to degradation of image contrast. We investigated the use of extremely thin ( 300 m) lead strips for passive shielding of...

We propose and experimentally investigate the use of SPM broadened spectrum filtering technique to suppress homodyne crosstalk of high-speed optical signals. Crosstalk tolerance is found to be enhanced by about 4-dB for 10-Gbps RZ data.

Fabry-Perot Filters are major candidates for use as demultiplexers in wavelength division multiple access networks. In this paper we investigate the crosstalk limitations of such filters, compare their performances, and optimize the filter design to minimize the crosstalk degradation.

Thyroid hormone receptors (TRs) and liver X receptors (LXRs) are members of the nuclear receptor superfamily. Although LXRs and TRs belong to two distinct receptor subgroups with respect to ligand-binding affinity, the two receptor systems show similarity with respect to molecular mechanism, target genes, and physiological roles. Since both TRs and LXRs play an important role in metabolic reg...

Crosstalk in a stereo recording occurs when the speech from one participant is leaked into the close-talking microphones of the other participants. This crosstalk causes degradation of the voice activity detection (VAD) performance on individual channels, in spite of the strength of the crosstalk signal being lower than that of the participant’s speech. To address this problem, we first detect ...
