In many wave energy concepts, power output in the MW range requires the simultaneous operation of many wave energy converters. In particular, this is true for small point-absorbers, where a wave energy farm may contain several hundred devices. The total performance of the farm is affected by the hydrodynamic interactions between the individual devices, and reliable tools that can model full far...
As a contribution to deterministic investigations into extreme fluid surface waves, in this paper wave profiles of prescribed period that have maximal crest height will be investigated. As constraints the values of the momentum and energy integrals are used in a simplified description with the KdV model. The result is that at the boundary of the feasible region in the momentum-energy plane, the...
We report the developments of hydrodynamic instabilities in several wellbalanced finite volume schemes that are observed during the computation of the temporal evolution of an out-balance flow which is essentially a kinematic wave. The numerical simulations are based on the one-dimensional shallow-water equations for a uniformly sloping bed with hydraulic resistance. Subsequently, we highlight ...
The two-dimensional velocity potential associated with the scattering of linear waves in water of finite but non-uniform depth is shown to be unique for Khmax ≤ 1. Here hmax is the maximum depth of the fluid and K = ω2/g, where ω is the angular frequency and g is the acceleration due to gravity. Uniqueness is established by proving that the homogeneous boundary value problem for the velocity po...
We segment seismic data based on the geometric information provided by sparse gaussian wave packet representations. We use this information to for estimates an abundance of candidate curves for the identification of the wave fronts. A graph cut methodology is then employed to reduce the number of curves such that the data is well described by only few wave fronts.
The Fisher-Kolmogorov-Petrowskii-Piscounov (FKPP) equation with cut-off was introduced in [E. Brunet and B. Derrida, Shift in the velocity of a front due to a cutoff, Phys. Rev. E 56(3), 2597–2604 (1997)] to model N -particle systems in which concentrations less than ε = 1 N are not attainable. It was conjectured that the cut-off function, which sets the reaction terms to zero if the concentrat...
In this paper, a new guidance method for surface to surface ballistic missiles without mandatory engine cut-off will be presented. The complexity of solid fuel engine cut-off demands a comprehensive method for guiding these missiles. In the method presented in this paper, a certain guidance law is applied such that by transmitting appropriate commands to the control system, by changing the miss...
We consider a nonlinear lattice of the Klein—Gordon type analysing envelope solitons created on a standing carrier wave. In particular, we show that nonlinear wavesofsuch a kind are described by a system of two coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations and we find a new class of its solutions which describe bound states of two dark-profile solitons. As particular cases, this solution includes non...
AIM To evaluate the performance of 2D shear-wave elastography from General Electric (2D-SWE.GE) for the noninvasiveassessment of liver fibrosis and to identify liver stiffness (LS) cut-off values for predicting different stages of fibrosisusing Transient Elastography (TE) as the reference method. MATERIAL AND METHOD We included 331 consecutive subjectswith or without chronic hepatopathies in ...
