Abstract. In the present paper we are concerned with the Novikov–Veselov equation at negative energy, i.e. with the (2+1)–dimensional analog of the KdV equation integrable by the method of inverse scattering for the two–dimensional Schrödinger equation at negative energy. We show that the solution of the Cauchy problem for this equation with non–singular scattering data behaves asymptotically a...

Whilst many solutions have been found for the Quantum Yang-Baxter Equation (QYBE), there are fewer known solutions available for its higher dimensional generalizations: Zamolodchikov’s tetrahedron equation (ZTE) and Frenkel and Moore’s simplex equation (FME). In this paper, we present families of solutions to FME which may help us to understand more about higher dimensional generalization of QYBE.

We show the existence of gap-Townes solitons for the multidimensional Gross-Pitaeviskii equation with attractive interactions and in twoand three-dimensional optical lattices. In absence of the periodic potential the solution reduces to the known Townes solitons of the multi-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation, sharing with these the propriety of being unstable against small norm (number...

By using the geometric concept of PDEs with prescribed curvature representation, we prove that the 1+2 dimensional isotropic Landau-Lifshitz equation is gauge equivalent to a 1+2 dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger-type system. From the nonlinear Schrödinger-type system, we construct blowing up H3(R2)-solutions to the Landau-Lifshitz equation, which reveals the blow up phenomenon of the equation.

Consider a three-dimensional vortex sheet in inviscid, incompressible flow which is irrotational away from the sheet. We derive an equation for the evolution of a vortex sheet in Lagrangian coordinates, i.e. an equation that is restricted to the sheet itself and is analogous to the Birkhoff-Rott equation for a two-dimensional (planar) sheet. This general equation is specialized to sheets with a...

An infinite sequence of commuting nonpolynomial contact symmetries of the two-dimensional minimal surface equation is constructed. Local and nonlocal conservation laws for n-dimensional minimal area surface equation are obtained by using the Noether identity. Introduction. In this paper, we analyze the symmetry properties of the Euler equation

The derivation of the equation governing the vibrating string yields the one-dimensional wave equation. We derive this equation and then use the solution to this partial differential equation to model particular physical phenomena. As we observe the behavior of the one-dimensional wave given various boundary conditions, we integrate a discussion of how normal modes influence the shape of the st...

We consider a nonlinear partial differential equation for complexvalued functions which is related to the two-dimensional stationary Schrödinger equation and enjoys many properties similar to those of the ordinary differential Riccati equation as, e.g., the famous Euler theorems, the Picard theorem and others. Besides these generalizations of the classical “one-dimensional” results we discuss n...

We obtain new gauge-invariant forms of two-dimensional integrable systems of nonlinear equations: the Sawada–Kotera and Kaup–Kuperschmidt system, the generalized system of dispersive long waves, and the Nizhnik–Veselov–Novikov system. We show how these forms imply both new and well-known two-dimensional integrable nonlinear equations: the Sawada–Kotera equation, Kaup–Kuperschmidt equation, disp...
