In recent years sulphasalazine has gained acceptance as an effective agent for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. A double blind trial was conducted to determine the dose of ibuprofen suspension, which is effective in reducing the body temperature. The principal measure of efficacy was a reduction in axillary temperature of 1 degree C or more three hours after dosing. A second objective of the trial was to compare the incidence and severity of side effects and the palatability of a range of ibuprofen doses...

OBJECTIVES To design microneedles that minimize pain, this study tested the hypothesis that microneedles cause significantly less pain than a 26-gauge hypodermic needle, and that decreasing microneedle length and the number of microneedles reduces pain in normal human volunteers. METHODS Single microneedles with lengths ranging from 480 to 1450 microm, widths from 160 to 465 microm, thickness...

BACKGROUND Database systems have been developed to store data from large medical trials and survey studies. However, a reliable data storage system does not guarantee data entering reliability. We aimed to evaluate if double-blind control of the data manager might have any effect on data-reliability. Our secondary aim was to assess the influence of the inserting position in the insertion-sheet o...

Three double blind treatments of a US$ 10 dictator game are used to examine the role of anonymity and perceptions of anonymity in pro-social behavior. In each treatment, more than 50 percent of dictators give US$ 0. For those dictators who...

Fourteen patients with a variety of ataxic disorders were given choline chloride, double blind for six weeks, in an attempt to improve gait and manual dexterity. One patient withdrew before receiving the active drug, twelve patients showed no functional improvement, but one achieved greater mobility; his response, which was dose dependent, ceased when choline was stopped and was reproducible.

Drs Cooke and Morgan have shown in a double blind trial that ethamsylate seemed to reduce the incidence of periventricular haemorrhage.' Although this is of great interest, no confirmation of these results is available so far. Yet Delandale Laboratories are already advertising ethamsylate as the drug to prevent periventricular haemorrhage in the newborn infant. In the past similar effects, clai...

On placebo, none noted marked improvement; one claimed moderate improvement on either amantadine or placebo. 18.7% repor...

The effects of placebo, propranolol and primidone were compared in 14 patients with essential tremor in a double blind, randomised, crossover study. Objective measures of tremor were obtained using an accelerometer with subsequent spectral analysis. Both propranolol (p less than 0.01) and primidone (p less than 0.01) gave significant improvement in tremor, but there was no significant differenc...
