Abstract Much of international behavior is linked spatially and temporally. Yet, analyses interstate interactions generally either assume independence among units or resort to technical solutions dependence that “throw away” relevant information. We detail a more informative satisfying approach modeling spatial from extra-dyadic linkages in alliance ties geographical proximity as specific pathw...
Engaging in emotional suppression typically has negative consequences. However, relatively little is known about response-focused emotion regulation processes in dyadic interactions. We hypothesized that interacting with suppressive partners would be more threatening than interacting with expressive partners. To test predictions, two participants independently watched a negatively-valenced vide...
Aposematic species use conspicuous “warning” signals to communicate unprofitability to potential predators. Although warning signals are classic examples of communication systems that evolved by natural selection, they can also function in the context of sexual communication and are therefore particularly useful for investigating conspicuous trait evolution under multifarious selection. To test...
This observational study examined whether emotional expressivity and emotional flexibility differed between parent-child dyads with and without children with an anxiety disorder (AD). Effects of parents' own AD on emotional expressivity and flexibility of dyads was also studied. The sample consisted of 128 referred children (59.4% girls) with an AD (8-18-year-olds) and both of their parents, an...
In recent years due to the high rate of divorce in our, tending to couples' relationship enhancement is highlighted. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of participation in psycho educational program based on Gottmans' Systemic-Behavioral approach in couples' dyadic adjustment and positive feelings. The method of the study was quasi-experimental with the pretest, post-test a...
Models at Play: Using Dynamic Field Theory to Understand Looking and Learning in Dyadic Interactions
Abstract Social and aggressive behaviours often affect the fitness of multiple interacting individuals simultaneously. Here, we assessed dyadic interactions in a colour-polymorphic cichlid fish, red devil, Amphilophus labiatus. We found that sub-adult devil pairs smaller body size interacted more, were more towards each other, than comprising larger individuals. Interactions did not significant...
We introduce a dyadic model for the Euler equations and the Navier-Stokes equations with hyper-dissipation in three dimensions. For the dyadic Euler equations we prove finite time blow-up. In the context of the dyadic Navier-Stokes equations with hyper-dissipation we prove finite time blow-up in the case when the dissipation degree is sufficiently small.
This study examined the effect of four communication modes (computer-based video teleconferencing, computer-based electronic chat, telephone, and face-to-face) on developmental interactions between dyads; specifically on the transmission of psychosocial versus instrumental information. The dyads consisted of undergraduates at a southeastern university. One member of the dyad was an incoming fir...
Across cultures, taller stature is linked to increased social status, but the potential reasons why this should be are unclear. One potential explanation is that taller individuals are more likely to win a dyadic confrontation with a competitor (i.e., they are more dominant), which leads to higher social rank. Although some previous studies have shown that perceptions of status or dominance are...
