We study the TE polarized electromagnetic surface wave propagating along the interface between materials with positive and negative magnetic permeability. Contrary to the TM polarized surface wave, the TE surface wave exhibits almost no radiation losses when scattered at semi-infinite dielectric interfaces.

A new approach to polarization algebra is introduced. It exploits the geometric properties of spinors in order to represent wave states consistently in arbitrary directions in three dimensional space. In this first expository paper of an intended series the basic derivation of the spinorial wave state is seen to be geometrically related to the electromagnetic field tensor in the spatio-temporal...

I. INTRODUCTION THE accurate analysis, design and optimization of guided-wave structures are essential for the development of integrated photonic devices. Of all the methods used to simulate guided-wave propagation in these devices, the beam propagation method (BPM) has been one of the most popular approaches used in the modeling and simulation of electromagnetic wave

Electromagnetic catalysis of the radiative transitions of ν i → ν j γ type in the field of an intense monochromatic wave Abstract The radiative decay of the massive neutrino ν i → ν j γ in a circularly polarized electromagnetic wave is investigated within the Standard theory with lepton mixing. The decay probability in the wave field does not contain a threshold factor ∼ (1 − m i /m j) as oppos...

a theory is presented for the dispersion relations of the nonlinear phonon-polaritons arising when phonons are coupled to the electromagnetic waves in multilayered structures of nonlinear materials. the calculations are applied to a multilayered structure consisting of a thin film surrounded by semi-infinite bounding media where each layer may have a frequency dependent dielectric function and ...

In this paper, scattering of a plane and monochromatic electromagnetic wave from a nano-wire is simulated using surface integral equations. First, integral equationsgoverning unknown fields on the surface is obtained based on Stratton-Cho surface integral equations. Then, the interaction of the wave with a non-plasmonic as well as a palsmonic nano-wire is considered. It is shown that in scatter...

A reduction of the Maxwell’s system to a Fredholm second-kind integral equation with weakly singular kernel is given for electromagnetic (EM) wave scattering by one and many small bodies. This equation is solved asymptotically as the characteristic size of the bodies tends to zero. The technique developed is used for solving the manybody EM wave scattering problem by rigorously reducing it to s...

An electronic diode is a nonlinear semiconductor circuit component that allows conduction of electrical current in one direction only. A component with similar functionality for electromagnetic waves, an electromagnetic isolator, is based on the Faraday effect of rotation of the polarization state and is also a key component in optical and microwave systems. Here we demonstrate a chiral electro...

ABSTRACT We present a formalism for evaluating the degrees of freedom (d.o.f.) in the communication with electromagnetic waves. We show that, although in principle there are an infinity of d.o.f., the effective number is finite. This is in agreement with the restricted classical theories. We further show that the best transmitting functions are the solutions of a specific eigenvalue equation. T...
