The ambient vibration measurement is a kind of output data-only dynamic testing where the traffics and winds are used as agents responsible for natural or environmental excitation. Therefore an experimental modal analysis procedure for ambient vibration testing will need to base itself on output-only data. The modal analysis involving output-only measurements present a challenge that requires t...

This paper presents a reverse engineering approach for parameter estimation in spiking neural networks (SNNs). We consider the deterministic evolution of a time-discretized network with spiking neurons, where synaptic transmission has delays, modeled as a neural network of the generalized integrate and fire type. Our approach aims at by-passing the fact that the parameter estimation in SNN resu...

Using urban household-level survey data from 1992 to 1998, we provide estimates of final demand for edible vegetable oils and animal fats in three regions of China based on the LinQuad incomplete demand system. For each region, the demand for the major “staple” oil is price inelastic. The demand for “condiment” or flavoring oils is more price responsive. All edible oils and fats have positive i...

Rapid development of engineering activities expands through a variety of rock engineering processes such as drilling, blasting, mining and mineral processing. These activities require rock dynamic fracture mechanics method to characterize the rock behavior. Dynamic fracture toughness is an important parameter for the analysis of engineering structures under dynamic loading. Several experimental...

We compare two inventory systems, one in which excess demand is lost and the other in which excess demand is backordered. Both systems are reviewed periodically. They experience the same sequence of identically and independently distributed random demands. Holding and shortage costs are considered. The holding cost parameter is identical, however the cost of a lost sale could be different from ...

This paper investigates the e ect of demand censoring on the optimal policy in newsvendor inventory models with general parametric demand distributions and unknown parameter values. We show that the newsvendor problem with observable lost sales reduces to a sequence of single-period problems while the newsvendor problem with unobservable lost sales requires a dynamic analysis. Using a Bayesian ...

THE PAPER PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF AN ANALYSIS FOCUSING ON the evaluation of large-scale oil and gas projects under market uncertainty and flexibility in engineering design. Keppel Offshore and Marine Technology Centre (KOMTech) has developed a proprietary Pre-cooled Nitrogen Expander (PreNex) technology as a solution for offshore associated gas applications for small-to-medium scale capacity (~...

In engineering, flood routing is an important technique necessary for the solution of a floodcontrol problem and for the satisfactory operation of a flood-prediction service. A simple conceptual model like the Muskingum model is very effective for the flood routing process. One challenge in application of the Muskingum model is that its parameters cannot be measured physically. In this article ...

This research is collaborative investigation with the general-purpose motor manufacturer. To review construction method in production process, we applied the parameter design method of quality engineering and tried to approach the optimization of construction method. Conventionally, press-fitting method has been adopted in process of fitting rotor core and shaft which is main component of motor...

For my final project I study the (nonparametric) unit demand pricing problem from a parametrized perspective. For instances with n items and m customers we give O(m) and O(n) algorithms respectively. We then investigate a price restricted variant of UDP called UDP-PS, and show the problem is fixed parameter tractable when the parameter is the number of customers.
