Abstract: Enzyme function prediction problem is usually solved using annotation transfer methods. These methods are suitable in cases where the function of the new protein is previously characterized and included in the taxonomy such as EC hierarchy. However, given a new function that is not previously described, these approaches arguably do not offer adequate support for the human expert. In t...

We report for the first time the enzymatic etching of cadmium sulfide nanoparticles (CdS NPs). The fluorescence of semiconductor CdS NPs is modulated irreversibly by an enzymatic reaction catalyzed by horseradish peroxidase (HRP). We observed blue-shifts of the corresponding fluorescence peaks for CdS NPs and a decrease in the intensity of the fluorescence signal.

A novel, inexpensive and versatile ionic-liquid-based catch and release mass spectrometry tag (I-Tag) that facilitates substrate purification, fast, robust and sensitive enzymatic reaction monitoring and quantitative kinetic analysis has been developed. The applicability of the system has been demonstrated in an enzymatic assay with β-1,4-galactosyltransferase.

The effects of physical and enzymatic treatments of gelatin on the gelatin-antigelatin reaction have been presented. The data obtained indicate that the gelatin-antigelatin reaction is indeed a specific one. It appears that a definite limiting molecular size and specific molecular pattern of this molecular unit are necessary for reaction with antibody.

A rapid polymerase chain reaction test was developed for specific identification of the human middle ear pathogen Alloiococcus otitis. Primers for the enzymatic amplification reaction were designed from highly specific sequences within the 16S rRNA gene. In addition, a confirmatory test based on hybridization of the polymerase chain reaction products to a specific internal probe was developed.

The cytoplasm of a living cell is crowded with several macromolecules of different shapes and sizes. Molecular diffusion in such a medium becomes anomalous due to the presence of macromolecules and diffusivity is expected to decrease with increase in macromolecular crowding. Moreover, many cellular processes are dependent on molecular diffusion in the cell cytosol. The enzymatic reaction rate h...

In this work, automatic pH changing system on lab-on-paper devices for enzyme-linked immunosorbent (ELISA) has been developed in order to improve their sensitivity and make the technique much more applicable to real samples. The most widely used enzyme in immunoassay are alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and peroxidase. ALP-conjugated secondary detection with BCIP/NBT substrate provides high sensitivi...

Discoipyrroles A-D (DPA-DPD) are recently discovered natural products produced by the marine bacterium Bacillus hunanensis that exhibit anticancer properties in vitro. Initial biosynthetic studies demonstrated that DPA is formed in the liquid fermentation medium of B. hunanensis from three secreted metabolites through an unknown but protein-independent mechanism. The increased identification of...

Experiments which combined histochemistry and electron microscopy were performed in studying the sites of enzymatic hydrolysis of thiolacetic acid in the presence of lead ions in diaphragmatic and cardiac muscle. It was found that in these striated muscles the electron opaque, final product of the histochemical reaction (PbS) was discretely deposited on the swelling of the thick elemental filam...

BACKGROUND Screening new lignocellulosic biomass pretreatments and advanced enzyme systems at process relevant conditions is a key factor in the development of economically viable lignocellulosic ethanol. Shake flasks, the reaction vessel commonly used for screening enzymatic saccharifications of cellulosic biomass, do not provide adequate mixing at high-solids concentrations when shaking is no...
