Background Connective tissue graft (CTG) is considered as the gold standard for the treatment of gingival recessions (GR). There are few studies assessing the complications that can arise in the donor site when harvesting a connective tissue graft (CTG) and how the harvesting technique can influence those complications. Material and Methods A retrospective clinical study was carried out in or...
In embryos, the Fraser complex (FC) mediates epithelial-connective tissue interactions. Loss of expression of FC components leads to Fraser syndrome (FS), in which cohesion of epithelial tissues and stroma is perturbed. Using zebrafish, Richardson et al. (this issue) identified the protein AMACO in the FC. We discuss the utility of zebrafish in determining FC functions and identifying FS targets.
A combination of hard and soft tissue grafting is used to augment a thin biotype. A 26-year-old woman with mandibular anterior flaring and Miller Class I and III recessions requested interceptive treatment. Surgery included a full-thickness buccal flap, intramarrow penetrations, bone graft placement, and primary flap closure. Postoperative visits were at 2 and 4 weeks and 2, 3, and 6 months. St...
Connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) is a growth and chemotactic factor for fibroblasts encoded by an immediate early gene that is transcriptionally activated by transforming growth factor-beta. Previous studies have shown that both CTGF messenger ribonuclear acid (mRNA) and protein are expressed in renal fibrosis and bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in mice. The aim of the present study ...
Oral mucosa becomes thinner, smooth and looses stippling aspect with aging. From histological standpoint appears: narrowing and alteration of gingival epithelium, modification of epithelial-connective interface and decreasing of keratinization. However, it cannot be detected significant histological alterations in size, shape or arrangement of epithelial cells that could be endorsed to aging pr...
background and objective: smoking can be associated with the decreasing gingival blood flow and epithelial changes. the aim of this study was to evaluate the histopathological changes of gingival epithelium and connective tissue in smokers. methods: the study was case-control. sixty male patients (28 smokers and 32 nonsmokers) suffering chronic periodontitis were participated in the study. peri...
