A facile aqueous synthesis method for the preparation of Au nanoparticle clusters by the controlled galvanic replacement of Ag nanoparticles with Au precursors is described. The prepared clusters showed both significantly enhanced surface-enhanced Raman scattering activity and stability.

Herein, we demonstrate that galvanic replacement reaction over aligned Ag nanowire arrays can be employed as a simple and powerful cold-welding technique for large-scale fabrication of highly ordered Au nanochannel monolayers.

INTRODUCTION: Cannulated screws, along with guide wires, are commonly used for a variety of orthopedic indications. Typically they are used for fractures in cancellous regions. Breakage or bending deformation of the guide wire is a clinical concern. Therefore it would be advantageous to use Co-Cr alloys such as MP35N and L605 in these applications as the occurrence of breakages and bendings wou...

The aim of the present study is to analyze the electrochemical behavior of five different dental alloys: two cobalt-chromium alloys (CoCr and CoCr-c), one nickel-chromium-titanium alloy (NiCrTi), one gold-palladium alloy (Au), and one titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V), and the galvanic effect when they are coupled to titanium implants (TiG2). It was carried out by electrochemical techniques (open circui...

INTRODUCTION Based on the knowledge that traumatic brainstem damage often leads to alteration in brainstem functions, including the vestibulo-ocular reflex, the present study is designed to determine whether prediction of outcome in the early phase after severe traumatic brain injury is possible by means of vestibulo-ocular monitoring. METHODS Vestibulo-ocular monitoring is based on video-ocu...

In this paper, we discuss findings from a study that used panoramic video-based virtual environments (PVVEs) to induce self-reported anger. The study assessed "immersiveness" and physiological correlates of anger arousal (i.e., heart rate, blood pressure, galvanic skin response [GSR], respiration, and skin temperature). Results indicate that over time, panoramic video-based virtual scenarios ca...

1. Twelve healthy subjects received high-voltage pulsed galvanic stimulation (115-475 V d.c.) delivered in separate treatments of 2, 32 and 128 pulses/s for 10 min at the subject's maximum tolerable voltage while calf muscle blood flow was measured by non-invasive Whitney strain-gauge venous occlusion plethysmography. 2. The high-voltage pulsed galvanic stimulation was administered with negativ...

The sharp boost in healthcare demand has seen novel developments in health monitoring technologies, such as Intra-body communication (IBC). IBC technology envisions a network of continuously operating sensors that measure critical physical and physiological parameters, such as mobility, heart rate and glucose levels just to name a few. Wireless connectivity in IBC technology is the key to its s...

To determine how the vestibular sense controls balance, we used instantaneous head angular velocity to drive a galvanic vestibular stimulus so that afference would signal that head movement was faster or slower than actual. In effect, this changed vestibular afferent gain. This increased sway 4-fold when subjects (N = 8) stood without vision. However, after a 240 s conditioning period with stab...
