In this paper, we describe a way to improve the performance of hand-tailorable planners by compiling each domain description into a separate domain-specific planner. We discuss why and when this approach can be useful, and we present experimental results showing that our approach produces significant increases in the speed of planning.

Using an expanded genetic code, antibodies with site-specifically incorporated nonnative amino acids were produced in stable cell lines derived from a CHO cell line with titers over 1 g/L. Using anti-5T4 and anti-Her2 antibodies as model systems, site-specific antibody drug conjugates (NDCs) were produced, via oxime bond formation between ketones on the side chain of the incorporated nonnative ...

Preoccupation with action-specific simulation theory, whereby covert imitation is thought to facilitate action interpretation, has overshadowed evidence that motor structures facilitate perception of numerous visual events extending far beyond others' actions. In light of these domain-general motor contributions to perception, the case for a special role of motor representation in human action ...

The extraction of general knowledge from individual episodes is critical if we are to learn new knowledge or abilities. Here we uncover some of the key cognitive mechanisms that characterise this process in the domain of language learning. In five experiments adult participants learned new morphological units embedded in fictitious words created by attaching new affixes (e.g., -afe) to familiar...

This paper proposes a novel method for learning probability models of subcategorization preference of verbs. We consider the issues of case dependencies and noun class generalization in a uniform way by employing the maximum entropy modeling method. We also propose a new model selection algorithm which starts from the most general model and gradually examines more specific models. In the experi...

Disputes about econometric methodology partly reflect a lack of evidence on alternative approaches. We reconsider econometric model selection from a computer-automation perspective, focusing on general-to-specific reductions, embodied in PcGets. Starting from a general congruent model, standard testing procedures eliminate statistically-insignificant variables, with diagnostic tests checking th...

People make anticipatory changes in gait patterns prior to initiating a rapid change of direction. How they prepare will change based on their knowledge of the maneuver. To investigate specific and general strategies used to facilitate locomotor maneuvers, we manipulated subjects' ability to anticipate the direction of an upcoming lateral "lane-change" maneuver. To examine specific anticipatory...

background: infertility has potentially inappropriate effects on quality of life in infertile couples. various general and specific questionnaires have been structured for assessing different aspects of quality of life in infertile men, women, or couples. the present systematic review was designed to assess these questionnaires and also identify different factors affecting infertile couples bas...

Structural vector autoregressive (SVAR) models have emerged as a dominant research strategy in empirical macroeconomics, but suffer from the large number of parameters employed and the resulting estimation uncertainty associated with their impulse responses. In this paper we propose general-to-specific model selection procedures to overcome these limitations. After showing that single-equation ...
