Surface and groundwater contamination with fecal pathogens is a public health concern especially in low-income settings where these sources are used untreated. We modeled observed Cryptosporidium and Giardia contamination in community ponds (n = 94; 79% contaminated), deep tubewells (DTWs) (n = 107; 17%), and shallow tubewells (STWs) (n = 96; 19%) during the 2012 and 2013 monsoon seasons (June-...
The EPA method 1623 is designed specifically for the detection of Cryptosporidium and Giardia, but the method has some issues with low and variable recoveries. Ultrafiltration has been used effectively for microorganism recovery from water samples but is not approved by the EPA. To determine the efficacy of using ultrafiltration, 10-L tap water and surface water samples were seeded with Cryptos...
Fecal samples were taken from wild ducks on the lower Rio Grande River around Las Cruces, N. Mex., from September 2000 to January 2001. Giardia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts were purified from 69 samples by sucrose enrichment followed by cesium chloride (CsCl) gradient centrifugation and were viewed via fluorescent-antibody (FA) staining. For some samples, recovered cysts and oocysts were f...
Cryptosporidium and Giardia are major causes of diarrhoeal diseases of humans worldwide, and are included in the World Health Organisation's 'Neglected Diseases Initiative'. Cryptosporidium and Giardia occur commonly in Malaysian human and non-human populations, but their impact on disease, morbidity and cost of illness is not known. The commonness of contributions from human (STW effluents, in...

Giardia duodenalis is a parasite of great medical interest due to the number infections it causes worldwide each year. Although research on epigenetic mechanisms in this protist has only begun recently, regulation already been shown have important roles encystation, antigenic variation, and resistance antibiotics Giardia. In work, we show that ortholog Sir2, GdSir2.4, involved silencing rRNA ex...
Sensitivities of DNA extraction methods and PCR methods for Giardia duodenalis were evaluated. A combination of the most sensitive methods, i.e., FTA filter paper and a PCR protocol using RH11/RH4 and GiarF/GiarR primers, showed no significant differences compared to immunofluorescence assay in terms of their sensitivities and specificities.
14-3-3 Negatively Regulates Actin Filament Formation In The Deep Branching Eukaryote Giardia lamblia
introduction: giardia and cryptosporidium are two of the most common parasitic protozoa that cause acute intestinal infections in children, all of the world. these parsites find in water environments, such as untreated water , wastewaters and even treated water. according to, a precise study on surface water was not done, in our country, necessity of precise study by ifa method that is prescise...
