Embedded systems increasingly entail complex issues of hardware–software (HW–SW) co-design. As the number and range of SW functional components typically exceed the finite HW resources, a common approach is that of resource sharing (i.e., the deployment of diverse SW functionalities onto the same HW resources). Consequently, to result in ameaningful co-design solution, one needs to factor the i...

Since the foundations of Population Genetics the notion of genetic equilibrium (in close analogy with Classical Mechanics) has been associated with the Hardy-Weinberg (HW) principle and the identification of equilibrium is currently assumed by stating that the HW axioms are valid if appropriate values of χ(2) (p < 0.05) are observed in experiments. Here we show by numerical experiments with the...

Molecular hydrogen (H2) can scavenge hydroxyl radical and diminish the toxicity of peroxynitrite; hence, it has interesting potential for antioxidant protection. Recently, a number of studies have explored the utility of inhaled hydrogen gas, or of hydrogen-saturated water, administered parenterally or orally, in rodent models of pathology and in clinical trials, oftentimes with very positive o...

Plasma densities produced by halfand full-wavelength (HW and FW) helical antennae in helicon discharges are compared. It is found that HW antennae are more efficient than FW ones in producing plasma downstream from the antenna. The measured wave amplitudes and the apparent importance of downstream ionization do not agree with computations.

Chromatin insulators have been implicated in the regulation of higher-order chromatin structure and may function to compartmentalize the eukaryotic genome into independent domains of gene expression. To test this possibility, we used biochemical and computational approaches to identify gypsy-like genomic-binding sites for the Suppressor of Hairy-wing [Su(Hw)] protein, a component of the gypsy i...

Chromatin insulators or boundaries are proposed to structure the chromatin fiber into functionally independent domains by promoting the formation of chromatin loops. These elements can block the communication between an enhancer and a gene when placed between them. Interestingly, it has been previously observed that two tandem copies of the Drosophila Su(Hw) insulator abolish this enhancer-bloc...

The possible impact of various Arctic polar vortex regimes for the stratosphere on Northern Hemisphere extratropics has not been fully understood. Previous study classified stratospheric to six using k-mean clustering algorithm based ERA5 reanalysis. stability and robustness classification is further verified with a much longer model dataset historical integrations from CESM2-WACCM. Consistent ...

A detailed study was undertaken to examine the color and chemistry changes of pine wood flour when its extractives are removed and when it is delignified. The solvent systems employed were toluene/ethanol (TE), acetone/water (AW), and hot-water (HW), while sodium chlorite/acetic acid were used for delignification (i.e., lignin removal (LR)). Samples were analyzed by attenuated total reflectance...

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary different levels of hatchery wastes (HW) on performance, tibia ash and blood calcium and phosphorus concentrations in broiler chickens. Birds were fed a corn-soybean meal diet for 7 days. The experimental treatments included 3 dietary treatments containing 1.5, 3 and 4.5 percent HW, in addition to the control without hatchery wast...

Recent data suggest that insulators organize chromatin architecture in the nucleus. The best studied Drosophila insulator proteins, dCTCF (a homolog of the vertebrate insulator protein CTCF) and Su(Hw), are DNA-binding zinc finger proteins. Different isoforms of the BTB-containing protein Mod(mdg4) interact with Su(Hw) and dCTCF. The CP190 protein is a cofactor for the dCTCF and Su(Hw) insulato...
