The aim of this paper is to introduce, by axiomatic way, the measure of the general (i.e. without probability) aimed information for crisp sets. We traslate the problem in a system of functional equation and we present a class of solutions; in the case of independence we characterize the solution. Finally, we give some aggregation operators for this form of information measures.

This paper contributes to the conceptual and algorithmic framework of information granulation. We revisit the role of information granules that are relevant to several main classes of technical pursuits involving temporal and spatial granulation. A detailed algorithm of information granulation, regarded as an optimization problem reconciling two conflicting design criteria, namely, a specificit...

The rise of the social media sites, such as blogs, wikis, Digg and Flickr among others, underscores the transformation of the Web to a participatory medium in which users are collaboratively creating, evaluating and distributing information. The innovations introduced by social media has lead to a new paradigm for interacting with information, what we call ’social information processing’. In th...

Consensus forecasts are ine¢ cient, because the weight placed on aggregate new private information relative to the prior re‡ects the optimal choices of the underlying individual forecasters— whose private signals are noisier individually than in aggregate— and as a result the consensus forecast over-weights the prior (Lim, Kim and Shaw, 2001). This paper assesses the empirical relevance of this...

Emerging approaches to network monitoring involve large numbers of agents collaborating to produce performance or security related statistics on huge, partial mesh networks. The aggregation process often involves security or business-critical information which network providers are generally unwilling to share without strong privacy protection. We present efficient and scalable protocols for pr...

Emerging approaches to network monitoring involve large numbers of agents collaborating to produce performance or security related statistics on huge and generally incomplete networks. The aggregation process often involves security or business-critical information which network providers are generally unwilling to share without strong privacy protection. We present efficient and scalable proto...

Elections have two distinct roles in society. First, they serve as a mechanism to decide policies when individuals disagree about appropriate actions. Second, they aggregate information dispersed in the population. This second role can be found even in situations where all individuals agree on the appropriate policies. The focus of this essay is on information aggregation in elections and on th...

Representing and fusing multimedia information is a key issue to discover semantics in multimedia. In this paper we address more specifically the problem of multimedia content retrieval through the joint design of an original multimodal information representation and of a machine learning-based fusion algorithm. We first define a novel preference-based representation particularly adapted to the...
