The performance of a pyroelectric detector with a carbon multi-walled nanotube coating was evaluated in the 0.9 μm to 14 μm wavelength range. The relative spectral responsivity of this detector was shown to be flat over most of the wavelength range examined and the spectral flatness was shown to be comparable to the best infrared black coatings currently available. The performance of the detect...

We introduce a classification method (cumulative discriminant analysis) of the discriminant analysis type to discriminate between cloudy and clear-sky satellite observations in the thermal infrared. The tool is intended for the high-spectral-resolution infrared sounder (IRS) planned for the geostationary METEOSAT (Meteorological Satellite) Third Generation platform and uses IASI (Infrared Atmos...

BACKGROUND Ovarian cancer is the second most common cancer among women and the leading cause of death among gynecologic malignancies. In recent years, infrared (IR) spectroscopy has gained attention as a simple and inexpensive method for the biomedical study of several diseases. In the present study infrared spectra of normal and malignant ovarian tissues were recorded in the 650 cm-1 to 4000 c...

SDSS J080531.84+481233.0 is a peculiar L-type dwarf that exhibits unusually blue near-infrared and mid-infrared colors and divergent optical (L4) and near-infrared (L9.5) spectral classifications. These peculiar spectral traits have been variously attributed to condensate cloud effects or subsolar metallicity. Here I present an improved near-infrared spectrum of this source which further demons...

Advanced satellite sensors are tasked with improving global-scale measurements of the Earth’s atmosphere, clouds, and surface to enable enhancements in weather prediction, climate monitoring, and environmental change detection. Measurement system validation is crucial to achieving this goal and maximizing research and operational utility of resultant data. Field campaigns employing satellite un...

Laboratory absorption spectra of peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN, CH3C(O)OONO2) vapour have been measured in the mid-infrared range 550 cm−1 to 1400 cm−1 (18.2 to 7.14μm) at both 250 K and 273 K, using a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer at a nominal spectral resolution of 0.25 cm−1 (unapodised). In addition, the 1600 cm−1 to 2200 cm−1 (6.25 to 4.54μm) spectral region has been measured at 250 K...

57 tobacco samples were chosen, the near-infrared diffuse reflectance spectra at five different parts of tobacco leafs were averaged as the original spectra, the range of 4000-9000 wavenumber of spectral information was selected after wavelength selection, first-order differential was used to eliminate the impact of offset, PCA was used to reduce the dimensions and select the most representativ...

We propose a new phenomenological law for the shape of the spectral lines in the infrared, which accounts for the exponential decay of the extinction coefficient in the high-frequency region, observed in many spectra. We apply this law to the measured infrared spectra of LiF, NaCl, and MgF2, finding good agreement over a wide range of frequencies.

Novel near-infrared pyrimidine-fused pH fluorescent probes were prepared by an unusual barbiturate-mediated debenzoindolation and subsequent heteroannulation. A plausible mechanistic pathway is proposed, and the final structures were further elucidated by 2D-NMR. All new compounds are highly fluorescent in the near-infrared region and possess excellent spectral sensitivities to environmental pH...

Enantiomerically pure dinuclear ruthenium complexes with 1,2-dicarbonylhydrazide as a bridging ligand are optically active in the visible and near infrared spectral regions depending on the oxidation states of the metal centers and are useful as an electrochemically driven near infrared chiroptical switch.
