lactobacillus spp are a group of gram-positive, non-spore forming, cocci or rod shaped, catalase negative organisms that benefit to the host. prebiotics are non-digestible food ingredients that stimulate the growth and /or activity of bacteria in the digestive system in ways claimed to be beneficial to health. this study was conducted in order to investigate the effects of selected probiotic mi...
A polyphasic taxonomic study of the bacterial flora isolated from traditional French wheat sourdough, using phenotypic characterization and phylogenetic as well as genetic methods, revealed a consistent group of isolates that could not be assigned to any recognized species. These results were confirmed by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA and amplified fragment length polymorphism fingerprinti...
OBJECTIVE This study was undertaken to characterise the dominant species of Lactobacillus colonising the vagina of healthy pregnant women, to examine some of their phenotypic and genotypic properties, and to gain a better understanding of the potential role of species, which might be associated with infection-free status. DESIGN A prospective descriptive cohort study. SETTING Department of ...
The genus Pelenomus Thomson from China is revised and six species are found occurring in China. Among them, P. curvatus, sp. nov. is described from Yunnan province, and four species are newly recorded from China: P waltoni (Boheman, 1843), P. canaliculatus (Fåhraeus, 1843), P. quadricorniger (Colonnelli, 1986) and P roelofsi (Hustache, 1916). Taxonomic diagnosis, habitus photos, detailed illust...
Lactobacillus plantarum is a widespread member of the Lactobacillus genus and frequently isolated from spoiled acidified food products. Here, we report the draft genome sequences of three L. plantarum food isolates.

Lactobacillus plantarum strain FMNP01 is a new strain with probiotic properties that was isolated from fresh mango from Guangzhou, China. Here, we report the complete genome of this organism.
Twenty-four Lactobacillus plantarum supermotifs (LPSMs) with lengths from approximately 800 to 1,000 nucleotides were identified in the L. plantarum genome. LPSMs were conserved in other L. plantarum strains but not in other species. Secondary structure analysis predicted that LPSMs may fold into cruciform-like structures. Preliminary experiments indicate that the LPSMs are transcribed.
Lactobacillus reuteri CECT8605 has shown potential probiotic properties in both in vitro and in vivo assays. Besides its beneficial characteristics, general aspects concerning genetic stability and safety for human consumption have been studied. Its genome sequence has been a useful tool to support preliminary conclusions based on empirical observations.
