BY XUAN WANG INTRODUCTION For actuated signal control at intersections with multilane approaches, detectors are normally placed in each lane. Two types of traffic detection schemes can be utilized for vehicle detection associated with multiple detectors: single-channel detection and lane-by-lane detection.1 The current single-channel detection method connects detectors in all lanes on an approa...

The detection of road lane markings has many practical applications, such as advanced driver assistance systems and road maintenance. In this paper we propose an algorithm to detect and recognize road lane markings from panoramic images. Our algorithm consists of four steps. First, an inverse perspective mapping is applied to the image, and the potential road markings are segmented based on the...

In order to detect lane rapidly and accurately, the integration of scanning and image processing algorithms (SIP) based on the fuzzy method is proposed. Further, combination of the proposed algorithm with an adaptive threshold value for image binarization, the least-square method and Bessel curve algorithm are proposed for detection and to fit the lane. The proposed SIP algorithm was evaluated ...

On Japanese high-ways, sharp turn and merging areas are the critical points where the majority of accidents occur. A number of studies have therefore taken place to date on supporting safer driving in merge areas within a framework of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Most of these studies, however, have assumed that drivers merge into the right main lane from the left lane because it i...

In this paper, we proposed a B-Snake based lane detection and tracking algorithm without any cameras’ parameters. Compared with other lane models, the B-Snake based lane model is able to describe a wider range of lane structures since B-Spline can form any arbitrary shape by a set of control points. The problems of detecting both sides of lane markings (or boundaries) have been merged here as t...

An experiment collected proximity data of motor traffic overtaking cycle traffic on roads with and without cycle lanes using an instrumented bicycle. The work enhances previous research which has considered the riding position of the cyclist and whether or not the cyclist was helmeted, while controlling for vehicle type. The analysis shows that significantly wider passing distances are adopted ...

Studies of motor vehicle automatic driving technology, using image sensors such as CCD cameras, are underway. In order to establish automatic driving technology, which is based on image sensors, improving lane recognition performance under a wide variety of meteorological environments is a key technology. To improve the reliability of image sensors, we decided to investigate the following three...

Maneuvers of a nonholonomic vehicle in a structured dynamic environment are considered. The paper focuses on motion generation and control methods to autonomously perform lane following/changing and parallel parking maneuvers. Lane following/changing involves the tracking of a nominal trajectory in the traac lane, and the generation and tracking of local lane-changing trajectories, for instance...

This paper presents a much advanced and efficient lane detection algorithm. The algorithm is based on (ROI) Region of Interest segmentation. In this algorithm images are pre-processed by a top-hat transform for de-noising and enhancing contrast. ROI of a test image is then extracted. For detecting lines in the ROI, Hough transform is used. Estimation of the distance between Hough origin and lan...

In this paper we propose a new lane detection method for expressway lane departure warning. The use of the extended Hough transform and a bird's-eye view image effectively improve the robustness and resolution of lane detection. Hardware cost is reduced by using a rear-view camera from an existing system and by implementing the system on an embedded CPU.
