BACKGROUND Laryngeal hypersensitivity may be an important component of the common disorders of laryngeal motor dysfunction including chronic refractory cough, pdoxical vocal fold movement (vocal cord dysfunction), muscle tension dysphonia, and globus pharyngeus. Introduction: Cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption have a well-known effect on the development of upper aerodigestive tract carcinomas, but such a role for opium is questionable. This study was designed to assess the correlation between opium inhalation and cancer of the larynx and upper esophagus. Materials and Methods: Fifty eight patients with laryngeal cancer, ninety eight patients wit...

Background & Objective: Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is considered to be one of the most common cancers of the head and neck, accounting for roughly 90% of all malignant tumors of the larynx. To have a timely diagnosis for a better and practical therapy, molecular markers have to be investigated. The aim of this study was to determine the expression of Cyclin D1 (CD...

Chronic oral candidiasis has been described in association with abnormalities of the endocrine system on many occasions, both in case reports (Sutphin, Albright, and McCune, 1943), and more general reviews (Kunin et al, 1963). Chronic candidiasis has also been recorded in the familial thymic aplasia described by Nezelof (Nezelof et al, 1964), Swiss-type agammaglobulinaemia (Hitzig, 1968) and Di...
