The authors show how ultrashort laser pulses can be used to almost immediately remove deep-lying electrons from small molecules. By suitably tuning the laser, that dipole instabilities driven whereby signal spontaneously reappears long after original dies out. An experimental approach for observing these is proposed.

Cavity nonlinear optics enables intriguing physical phenomena to occur at micro- or nano-scales with modest input powers. While this enhances capabilities in applications such as comb generation, frequency conversion, and quantum optics, undesired effects including photorefraction thermal bistability are exacerbated. In Letter, we propose demonstrate a highly effective method of achieving cavit...

Application of the Transverse Chirped Bragg Grating (TCBG a reflecting volume Bragg grating with continuously variable resonant wavelength across the aperture) for the narrowband tunable ring-cavity fiber laser is presented. The main advantage of the use of TCBG is that its linear translation allows continuous tuning of emission wavelength within 5-10 nm band. Yb doped fiber laser operating in ...

We show theoretical and experimental results from a tunable laser, with its center wavelength in the C-band, designed using coupled-ring resonator mirrors. The effective cavity length enhancement and negative optical feedback obtained from the resonators helps to narrow the laser linewidth in a small form factor. We report a linewidth of 160 kHz and a side-mode suppression ratio of 9 40 dB over...

Using an SF6 glass plate as the intracavity Kerr medium and a double-prism pair for dispersion compensation, we developed a femtosecond transform-limited passively mode-locked dye laser. Self-starting mode locking is achieved with a dilute intracavity TCVEBI saturable-absorber jet. Within a 50% power drop the tuning range is 577-606 nm. Pulse characteristics of the laser agree with theoretical ...

To realize a genuine CW optical frequency synthesizer, a continuously tunable single-frequency CWlaser has been employed to track precisely any arbitrary component of a wide bandwidth phase-stabilized optical comb. We demonstrate experimentally two fundamental aspects of optical frequency synthesis, namely, precise setting of the laser frequency at an arbitrary pre-determined value, and continu...

Operation of a far-infrared (1.5–4.2 THz) p-Ge laser in an open quasi-optical resonator is demonstrated. This contrasts with previous designs where mirrors were fixed to surfaces of the active crystal. Enhanced stability and tuning of the laser cavity length are demonstrated, which are steps toward continuous tunability without mode-hops. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 42...
