Relapsed precursor T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia is characterized by resistance against chemotherapy and is frequently fatal. We aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms resulting in relapse of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia and analyzed 13 patients at first diagnosis, remission and relapse by whole exome sequencing, targeted ultra-deep sequencing, multiplex ligation dependent...

Indolent T-lymphoblastic proliferation (iT-LBP) is a recently recognized benign pathologic condition commonly associated with Castleman disease. The lymph node of this shows preserved lymphoid architecture nonclonal T-lymphoblasts in the interfollicular area. iT-LBP rare and diagnosis exclusion. As rule, it requires sophisticated techniques to exclude leukemia/lymphoma (T-LBL/L). We present an ...

Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is rarely reported in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and may be difficult to differentiate from vincristine induced neuropathy. We report two children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on induction chemotherapy who developed GBS. The diagnostic issues and potential pathogenic mechanisms underlying GBS in pediatric patients with ALL are discussed.

We report two cases that presented with unexplained acute renal failure and hyperuricemia and were subsequently diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The patients improved with conservative therapy without the need for dialysis. Case 1 is the youngest case of acute lymphoblastic leukemia with spontaneous tumor lysis syndrome reported to date, and Case 2 presented with spontaneous ...

INTRODUCTION Minimal residual disease is an important independent prognostic factor that can identify poor responders among patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to analyze minimal residual disease using immunoglobulin (Ig) and T-cell receptor (TCR) gene rearrangements by conventional polymerase chain reaction followed by homo-heteroduplex analysis an...

B-Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL) is the second most common acute leukemia in adults. Its clinical manifestations include leukocytosis or leukopenia, anemia, and thrombocytopenia with an overall poor prognosis elderly patients. If relapse occurs, it commonly involves bone marrow but can also involve Extramedullary (EM) sites such as brain, testis, liver, spleen lymph nodes. Isolated extramedulla...

BACKGROUND The translocation t(1;19)(q23;p13), which results in the TCF3-PBX1 chimeric gene, is one of the most frequent rearrangements observed in B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It appears in both adult and pediatric patients with B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia at an overall frequency of 3 to 5%. Most cases of pre-B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia carrying the translocation t(1;19...

BACKGROUND The t(9;22) and t(4;11) chromosomal translocations, which generate the BCR-ABL and MLL-AF4 fusion genes, define high-risk subtypes of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in adults. However, the prognostic impact of other rarer fusion genes is less well established in adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia than in the childhood form. DESIGN AND METHODS In the context of the German Multicenter ...

BACKGROUND Advances in the treatment of childhood hematologic malignancies have led to improvements in survival for several of these conditions during the past few decades, but most population-based survival data available to date refer only to patients diagnosed up to the mid-1990s. METHODS We used period analysis to assess trends in 5- and 10-year survival in US patients younger than 15 yea...

BACKGROUND Despite incremental improvements in outcomes for patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, significant numbers of patients still die from this disease. Mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitors have shown potential in vitro and in vivo as therapeutic agents against a range of tumors including acute lymphoblastic leukemia. DESIGN AND METHODS Flow cytometry was used to evaluate drug...
