The paper analyzes various parallel matrix-vector multiplications with diierent matrix and vector types resulting from a non overlapping domain decomposition. Under certain requirements to the f.e. mesh all given matrix and vector types can be used in the multiplication. The general framework is applied to the investigation of the preconditioning step in cg-like methods. Not only the well-known...

| Methods for matrix decomposition have found numerous applications in image processing, in particular for the problem of template decomposition. Since existing matrix decomposition techniques are mainly concerned with the linear domain, we consider it timely to investigate matrix decomposition techniques in the nonlinear domain with applications in image processing. The mathematical basis for ...

Synaptic plasticity has long been known to involve three key elements of neuropil, the presynapse, the postsynapse and adjacent glia. Here we review the role of the extracellular matrix in synaptic plasticity as a necessary component forming the tetrapartite synapse. We describe the role of matrix metalloproteinases as enzymes sculpting extracellular proteins and thereby creating an extracellul...

We recently characterized three FGF-binding proteins (FGF-BPs) which are soluble forms of the extracellular domains of the high affinity FGF receptors (Hanneken, A. M., W. Ying, N. Ling, and A. Baird. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA. 1994. 91:9170-9174). These proteins circulate in blood and have been proposed to modulate the biological activity of the FGF family of proteins. Immunohistochemical stu...

So far, various components of image characteristics have been used for steganalysis, including the histogram characteristic function, adjacent colors distribution, and sample pair analysis. However, some certain steganography methods have been proposed that can thwart some analysis approaches through managing the embedding patterns. In this regard, the present paper is intended to introduce a n...

We present lattice calculations of kaon matrix elements with domain wall fermions. Using lattices with 6/g2 = 5.85, 6.0, and 6.3, we estimate BK(μ ≈ 2 GeV) = 0.628(47) in quenched QCD which is consistent with previous calculations. At 6/g2 = 6.0 and 5.85 we find the ratio fK/mρ in agreement with the experimental value, within errors. These results support expectations that O(a) errors are expon...

Nucleon decay is one of the most important aspect that any (SUSY) GUT model has. In low-energy effective theories it is represented by dimension six operators made of one lepton field and three quark fields. In the decay of p → π + e, for example, we need to calculate hadronic matrix element of the three quark operator O R/L;L = ǫ(uCPR/Ld)PLu with initial proton and final pion states, where C i...

The assembly of fibronectin into disulfide cross-linked extracellular matrices requires the interaction of mesenchymal cells with two distinct sites on fibronectin, the Arg-Gly-Asp cell adhesive site and an amino-terminal site contained within the first five type I homologous repeats (Quade, B. J., and McDonald, J. A. (1988) J. Biol. Chem. 263, 19602-19609). Proteolytically derived 29-kDa fragm...

• inside of the subdomains, L∞-coefficients are allowed (i.e., jumping coefficients, oscillatory coefficients, etc.). There is no need to place the skeleton along jump lines. A proof concerning robustness against rough boundaries and non-smooth coefficients is given in [1]. If, however, it happens that the coefficients are piecewise constant or analytic in the subdomains, a further improvement ...

Discoidin Domain Receptors (DDRs) have recently emerged as non-integrin-type receptors for collagen. The two mammalian gene products Discoidin Domain Receptor 1 and -2 constitute a subfamily of tyrosine kinase receptors that are selectively expressed in a number of different cell types and organs. Upon collagen activation, DDRs regulate cell adhesion, proliferation and extracellular matrix remo...
