One of the hallmarks of diffusion NMR and MRI is its ability to utilize restricted diffusion to probe compartments much smaller than the excited volume or the MRI voxel, respectively, and to extract microstructural information from them. Single-pulsed field gradient (s-PFG) MR methodologies have been employed with great success to probe microstructures in various disciplines, ranging from chemi...

Figure 1. Significant (*) group mean differences were detected for Kra when compared the adolescent group with the young adult (p=0.004) and elderly group (p=0.01). The increase of Kra represents an increase in the microstructural complexity of the thalamus, possibly related to ongoing myelination and increase in fiber packing density. Assessment of Age-Related Microstructural Changes in the Th...

A systematic study has been carried out to quantify the effect of microcrystallite nucleation in the intrinsic layer of protocrystalline Si:H p-i-n solar cells prepared by rf plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). Real-time spectroscopic ellipsometry (RTSE) results that have previously identified the transitions from amorphous to microcrystalline phase were confirmed with atomic for...

The RheoMetal process (previously called the Rapid Sand RSFprocess) is a novel method to produce cost effective, high quality, semisolid slurries for component casting. The RheoMetal process uses an Enthalpy Exchange Material (EEM) as cooling agent to absorb heat and produce a slurry. Critical process parameters to create a slurry by robust melting of the EEM are alloy content, stirring speed, ...

The effect of microstructural variations on the fracture toughness of Alloy 718 was reviewed. The metallurgical parameters surveyed in this paper included heat treatment, heat-to-heat variations, product-form variations, neutron irradiation and long-term thermal aging. Key microstructural features and operative fracture mechanisms were related to macroscopic fracture toughness properties.

This study was conducted to compare the efficiency of different plant proteases for changing biochemical and microstructural characteristics in muscle foods. The meat samples from chicken, giant catfish, pork and beef were treated with four types of proteolytic enzymes: Calotropis procera latex proteases, papaya latex proteases, commercial papain and bromelain at the concentrations of 2 × 10 3 ...

Pressure ulcers are generally associated with external pressures exceeding internal capillary pressures over bony prominences when the body cannot initiate motor movement to change positions. This investigation evaluated microstructural changes occurring in human skin, in vitro, exposed to static versus cyclic pressures, simulating those recorded for heels of human subjects on various pressure-...

Wheat bran arabinoxylan (WBAX) gels entrapping standard model proteins at different mass ratios were formed. The entrapment of protein affected the gel elasticity and viscosity values, which decreased from 177 to 138 Pa. The presence of protein did not modify the covalent cross-links content of the gel. The distribution of protein through the network was investigated by confocal laser scanning ...
