Rapid and efficient methods for the synthesis of an important intermediate of benazepril ethyl 3-phthalimido-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-[1]benzazepin-2-one-1-acetate under the influence of microwave irradiation are described. A comparative study of conventional and microwave assisted method is briefly discussed.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of lipid oxidation in peanut (Arachis hypogaea L) seeds which were heated by microwave irradiation. Peanut seeds were exposed to microwaves for 0, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5 and 6.5 min at frequency of 2,450 MHz, 450 watts microwave oven. The quality characteristics of peanut seed (moisture content and color values), extracted peanut oils (PV, TB...

Unsubstituted cyclic imides were synthesized from a series of cyclic anhydrides, hydroxylamine hydrochloride (NH2OH.HCl), and 4-N,N-dimethylamino-pyridine (DMAP, base catalyst) under microwave irradiation in monomode and multimode microwaves. This novel microwave synthesis produced high yields of the unsubstituted cyclic imides for both the monomode (61 - 81%) and multimode (84 - 97%) microwaves.

A microwave-assisted solid-phase synthesis of 2-(benzylthio)imidazo[1,2a]pyrimidin-5-ones has been developed. Using microwave irradiation, the reaction time was significantly reduced from a few days to 80 min. A representative set of 10 2-(benzylthio)-6,7-substituted-imidazo[1,2a]pyrimidin-5-ones was prepared. These compounds were subsequently N-alkylated and formylated in good yields.

We present a slab-line waveguide whose geometry is optimized for wide-angle x-ray diffraction (XRD) experiments on protein crystals during irradiation with intense microwave fields. Characterization of the waveguide transmission and reflectivity (using time-domain reflectometry) and of the electric field distribution inside the waveguide (using finite-difference time-domain calculations) shows ...

A fast, general, environmentally friendly and facile method for preparation of five- and six-membered ring diazaheterocylic salts under microwave irradiation is presented. The N-alkylation reactions of imidazole, pyrimidine, pyridazine and phthalazine have been studied. The microwaves remarkably accelerated these N-alkylations, the reaction times decreased dramatically, the reaction conditions ...

Two pretreatment methods, microwave irradiation and steam explosion, were investigated in this work. The aim of the study was to investigate whether these methods would improve the biodegradability of wheat straw as a lignocellulosic feedstock. Microwave pretreatment was carried out on milled straw with an irradiation time of 15 minutes, at a temperature of either 200 or 300 °C in the oven. The...

The wet biomass microalgae of Nannochloropsis sp. was converted to biodiesel using direct transesterification (DT) by microwave technique and ionic liquid (IL) as the green solvent. Three different ionic liquids; 1-butyl-3-metyhlimidazolium chloride ([BMIM][Cl], 1-ethyl-3-methylimmidazolium methyl sulphate [EMIM][MeSO4] and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethane sulfonate [BMIM][CF3SO3]) ...

The utility of microwave irradiation to accelerate the onset of equilibrium and improve ELISA performance was examined using ELISAs for the detection of the plant toxin ricin and gliadin. The ricin ELISA normally requires several one hour incubations at 37 °C, a total assay time of approximately five hours, and employs a complex buffer containing PBS, Tween-20®, and non-fat milk. Different ener...

A phosgene-free synthesis of symmetrical N,N'-disubstituted urea by the reaction of aromatic and aliphatic primary amines and urea promoted by  microwave irradiation in the presence of a suitable energy-transfer solvent such as N-N-dimethylacetamide is described.
