This paper describes a characteristics-mix finite element method for the computation of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with variable density. We have introduced a mixed scheme which combines a characteristics finite element scheme for treating the mass conservation equation and a finite element method to deal with the momentum equation and the divergence free constraint. The proposed me...

In the present research, a fully Automatic crack propagation as one of the most complicated issues in fracture mechanics is studied whether there is an inclusion or no inclusion in the structures. In this study The Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) is utilized because of several drawbacks in standard finite element method in crack propagation modeling. Estimated Crack paths are obtained by ...

We investigate the connections between several recent methods for the discretization of anisotropic heterogeneous diffusion operators on general grids. We prove that the Mimetic Finite Difference scheme, the Hybrid Finite Volume scheme and the Mixed Finite Volume scheme are in fact identical up to some slight generalizations. As a consequence, some of the mathematical results obtained for each ...

We develop a new mixed formulation for the numerical solution of second-order elliptic problems. This new formulation expands the standard mixed formulation in the sense that three variables are explicitly treated: the scalar unknown, its gradient, and its ux (the coeecient times the gradient). Based on this formulation, mixed nite element approximations of the second-order elliptic problems ar...

We present and analyze a coupled finite element-boundary element method for a model in stationary micromagnetics. The finite element part is based on mixed conforming elements. For two- and three-dimensional settings, we show well-posedness of the discrete problem and present an a priori error analysis for the case of lowest order elements.

A new mixed finite element method on three-dimensional hexahedral meshes for second order elliptic problems is proposed. This finite element is a composite element. It is shown to have optimal convergence properties, and it is applied to a hydrogeology problem.

Based on H-Galerkin mixed finite element method with nonconforming quasi-Wilson element, a numerical approximate scheme is established for pseudo-hyperbolic equations under arbitrary quadrilateral meshes. The corresponding optimal order error estimate is derived by the interpolation technique instead of the generalized elliptic projection which is necessary for classical error estimates of fini...

In this paper we develop an analytical framework for the study of 2 electrochemical impedance of mixed ionic and electronic conductors 3 (MIEC). The framework is based on first-principles and it features 4 the coupling of electrochemical reactions, surface transport and bulk 5 transport processes. We utilize this work to analyze two-dimensional 6 systems relevant for fuel cell science via finit...
