Many constitutions specify procedures that allow critical decisions to be made with a different rule than routine decisions. We propose a theory of constitutional rules that explains why. The theory is based on the assumption that the type of a decision can be observed, but not veri...ed. We characterize two classes of second-best constitutions, both with clear analogues in real world constitut...

This paper analyzes an infinite-period oligopoly model where consumers incur costs when switching supplier. Every period only a fraction α of consumers considers switching. Firms can price-discriminate between their current customers and consumers who did not buy from the firm in the past period. We give a geometric proof of a “parity-switching” phenomenon that occurs when applying the local Langlands and Jacquet–Langlands correspondence to a self-dual supercuspidal representation ofGL(n) over a nonarchimedean local field. This turns out to reflect a duality property on the self-dual part of the `-adic étale cohomology of the Lubin–Tate tower.

However, how satisfaction and switching barrier influence customer loyalty has been less conclusive. The possible reason is neglect of c...

Vertically aligned liquid crystal displays (VA-LCDs) are very attractive for application in television sets and mobile devices because of their excellent contrast ratio and wide viewing angle, realized by using multi-domain structures. However, the dynamic behaviour of VA-LCDs can be affected by a reverse flow phenomenon [1], referred to as backflow, when a voltage step with amplitude exceeding...
