We review the measurements of the top quark mass by the CDF and DØ collaborations using Run I data in excess of 100 pb−1. The DØ collaboration [1] has recently updated its measurement of the top quark mass in the lepton + jets channel. The world average of the top quark mass from the CDF [2] and DØ measurements in the lepton + jets channel now stands at 175.6 ± 5.5 GeV/c2.
We conjecture that the neutral black hole pair production is related to the vacuum fluctuation of pure gravity via the Casimir-like energy. Implications on the foam-like structure of spacetime are discussed.
Ja n 19 99 Coherent Potential Approximation for ‘ d - wave ’ Superconductivity in Disordered Systems
A Coherent Potential Approximation is developed for s–wave and d–wave superconductivity in disordered systems. We show that the CPA formalism reproduces the standard pair-breaking formula, the self-consistent Born Approximation and the self-consistent T -matrix approximation in the appropriate limits. We implement the theory and compute Tc for s–wave and d–wave pairing using an attractive neare...
We will prove that there exists a model of ZFC+“c = ω2” in which every M ⊆ R of cardinality less than continuum c is meager, and such that for every X ⊆ R of cardinality c there exists a continuous function f :R → R with f [X] = [0, 1]. In particular in this model there is no magic set, i.e., a set M ⊆ R such that the equation f [M ] = g[M ] implies f = g for every continuous nowhere constant f...
The interaction of the heliosphere with interstellar clouds has attracted interest since the late 1920's, both with a view to explaining apparent quasi-periodic climate " catastrophes " as well as periodic mass extinctions. Until recently, however, models describing the solar wind-local interstellar medium (LISM) interaction self-consistently had not been developed. Here, we describe the result...
We study the generalized supersymmetric t − J model with Kondo impurities in the boundaries. We first construct the higher spin operator K-matrix for the XXZ Heisenberg chain. Setting the boundary parameter to be a special value, we find a higher spin reflecting K-matrix for the supersymmetric t− J model. By using the Quantum Inverse Scattering Method, we obtain the eigenvalue and the correspon...
We present the results on the evaluation of the higher order perturbative corrections to Compton scattering in the generalized Bjorken kinematics. The approach we have used is based on the combination of two techniques: conformal operator product expansion, on the one side, and resummation of the fermion vacuum insertions with consequent restoration of the full QCD β-function via the naive nona...
We present in this contribution our set of multiwavelength synthesis models including the evolution of single and binary stars. The main results we have obtained can be summarized as follows: (a) massive close-binary systems will start to experience mass transfer episodes after the first 4 Myr of the starburst evolution; (b) as a result of these mass transfer processes, stars of relatively low ...
We examine the effect of weak, small scale magnetic field structure on the rate of reconnection in a strongly magnetized plasma. This affects the rate of reconnection by reducing the transverse scale for reconnection flows, and by allowing many independent flux reconnection events to occur simultaneously. Allowing only for the first effect and using Goldreich and Sridhar’s model of strong turbu...
We introduce the spherical field formalism for free gauge fields. We discuss the structure of the spherical Hamiltonian for both general covariant gauge and radial gauge and point out several new features not present in the scalar field case. We then use the evolution equations to compute gauge-field and field-strength correlators. 1 Overview Spherical field theory is a new non-perturbative met...
