Maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles were obtained by coprecipitation of ferrous and ferric salts in an alkaline medium followed by oxidation; the nanoparticles were coated with poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA) and characterized by transmission electron microscopy, attenuated total reflection (ATR) Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, thermogravimetric and e...
The development of nanomaterials and nanotechnology enables the production nanosized metallic alloys with advanced characteristics from their oxides via a thermal reduction technique. aim present work was to produce iron, nickel, tungsten through gaseous metal oxide powders as preliminary step towards fabrication heavy unique properties. Nanosized NiO, Fe2O3, WO3 were isothermally non-isotherma...
The ability of dissimilatory metal-reducing microorganisms (DMRM) to conduct extracellular electron transfer with conductive cellular components grants them great potential for bioenergy and environmental applications. Crystalline Fe(III) oxide, a type of widespread electron acceptor for DMRM in nature, can be excited by light for photocatalysis and microbial culture-mediated photocurrent produ...
We developed a solvothermal-induced self-assembly approach to construct three dimensional (3D) macroscopic Fe2O3 nanocubes/nitrogen-doped graphene (Fe2O3-NC/GN) aerogel as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). The Fe2O3 nanocubes with length of ~50 nm are homogeneously anchored on 3D GN frameworks and as spacers to separate the neighboring GN sheets. Based on intensively investigati...
Polypropylene grafted maleic anhydride (PP-MA, 2500 g mole(-1)) has demonstrated its unique capability to synthesize 1-D ferromagnetic hard (292.7 Oe) γ-Fe2O3 nanochains made of ~24 nm nanoparticles vs. PP-MA with 8000 g mole(-1) for the synthesis of 1-D ferromagnetic soft (70.5 Oe) γ-Fe2O3 nanochains (30 nm) made of flowerlike nanoparticles.
A facile synthesis of Ag2S-hollow Fe2O3 nanocomposites with NIR photoluminescence was firstly demonstrated by the sulfidation of Ag-Fe2O3 core-shell nanoparticles. Characteristic morphology transformations along with color changes were recorded and a mechanism was proposed for the sulfidation process, which can provide new possibilities to fabricate other complex nanostructures.
Novel flexible, mesoporous, and magnetic γ-Fe2O3@SiO2 nanofibrous membranes with high γ-Fe2O3 content and uniform distribution were prepared by a facile in situ growth method, which exhibit prominent mechanical strength and magnetic responsive performance, as well as efficient adsorption for organics in water.
High-performance, cost-effective and stable electrocatalysts are critical for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) via water splitting in alkaline media. Herein a unique hetero-nanostructured Ni/NiFe-layered double oxide (Ni/NiFe-LDO) on Ni foam (NF) has been successfully constructed through phase-transition controlled in-situ reduction process. Because the two-dimensional (2D) morphology of NiFe-...
Siderophile elements are depleted in the Earth's mantle, relative to chondritic meteorites, as a result of equilibration with core-forming Fe-rich metal. Measurements of metal-silicate partition coefficients show that mantle depletions of slightly siderophile elements (e.g. Cr, V) must have occurred at more reducing conditions than those inferred from the current mantle FeO content. This implie...
